The Attack on Titan Project

I'm not sure if this post is strictly meant to be in General Discussion, and I apologise if I'm making a mistake here.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of the recent anime, Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin to all you nerds out there), and a huge noob in unity.

I've been trying out a few ways to use grapples (to no avail, courtesy of my very small Unity coding experience), but in the future I hope to release an Oculus demo similar to a Unity game found here: nglee.com/game/aog/

Here is my control scheme for use in conjunction with Hydras and Rift:

Head look - Rift movement
Sword / Hand movement - Hydra motion
Right Grapple (released from the right hip towards a crosshair following the head movement) - Right bumper
Left Grapple (released from the left hip towards a crosshair following the head movement) - Left bumper
Both Grapples (towards a pair of crosshairs to the left and right of the main crosshair) - Both bumpers
Rotate body (Can fully rotate body in the air to pull off sick flips, yo!) - Right stick
Movement - Left stick
Release right blade - Right trigger
Release left blade - Left trigger
Replace blade - Move empty hilt down to scabbard

I don't know if anyone else is trying this already, but I'd love to see what you've made. Also, I know this project seems ambitious, but with a lot of practise, I hope to be able to make something like this.
Release right blade
Oh, the brutal wait until Christmas. Downloading leagues of demos to make the wait less agonising.

Windlands uses a grapple and was done in unity, maybe those scripts would help you out.

Besides Windlands, there are two other Rift demos I know of with some form of grappling mechanic:

One is COZ, and the other is Titan (made by a Japanese developer - no genitals on the big people but possibly NSFW anyway)

There's definitely a LOT of room for different variations on the grappling mechanic, and always interested to see how these are implemented. As you say, I'm sure that with practice you can put something together too. 🙂

I've managed a slightly illicit way to use the Hydras in Unity Free. Please don't sue me. I'd like to save my trial for when I'm a little more experienced.

Also, the Windlands thing looks like something I should aim for. Thanks for sharing.

EDIT: Time to make a crude attempt to strip the carcass of Windlands and see what's going on in there...

I think an Attack on Titan game would be great!

If you posted your source code on github or something it could be a good community project too 🙂

Might want to mark that as NSFW
Seeing is believing

Sorry about that! Those big people don't have any genitals, but someone passing by at work isn't going to know that, huh?

Haha yeah unfortunately not, just don't want someone with a looming boss or co-worker to get in trouble 🙂

I would love to play an attack on titan game with the oculus and a hydra / stem.

for the people who do not watch anime or know what we are talking about, here is a video highlighting the 3d maneuver gear.
