So i Made this thread to discuss the Modding of the rift to get rid of the Screendoor effekt.

Way back a few guys modded their DK1 with Foil to get rid of it...

Im talking about the Mod with the laminating pouches about 6 Month ago.

Anyone tried it on the Dk2?

Here is an old Video

After a few month of use, I tried the laminating pouch mod on my dk1. I only used a single sheet, because I wanted to avoid too much blurring.

The effect was pretty amazing, I have to say. I cannot see the individual pixels anymore, even if I try. I think it really makes sense on low resolution displays like the dk1. I am not sure if I would do it to the dk2, but I will check that out as soon as I get it.

I also have a riftup in the mail, on the way from prague since yesterday. I will test that without the pouch, and maybe I´ll try it with it as well. Just to see the difference.

i have a DK2 and first thing that annoyed me is the SDE , and even more than the grid is the subpixel are too visible.
I put the the plastic bag on the screen and now it is perfect.
there is little glow effect on very bright object on dark backgound but it is an exception i can live with.
I first stretched the plastic bag on a frame and fixed it with adhesive tape. This require several pass until the plastic is well stretched. This allows to get a sufficient surface to find a place without defect.
once done, i put the screen on the plastic and mark the contour of the screen with a felt marker.
then i put contact glue on the contour marked and wait for the glue to dry a bit (but not totally).
I place the screen on the glue and press a bit to stretch the plastic and wait 3 min for the glue to dry.
Then i cut the plastic 2 or 3 mm around the screen and fold it on the bak of the screen.
if you make it right, you got a perfect sde filter, with no dust and sealed.
I am very satisfied with result, the screen door effect totally disappeared and picture is still ok.
i tested laminated pouch, but best material i found is a plastic bag used for my cat litter, it is ultra thin and transparent.
next step is to get a decent lens, because the chromatic aberration (color fringes on the border) is very bad.
plastic sucks for this (unless you get a computer designed lens for that special purpose).
achromat lenses usually are made from 2 lenses glued together. Modern design should allow to get this done with 2 plastics.

hi this is my first reply 😉
I don't know if can be a solution for everyone but i can't see the sde after i've applied those low quality card protectors (i used them to play mtg). I simply pull off the lenses, cut the protector as a square and put it in...it stay at his place but i think you can use tape ( it must be not too small) and eliminate sde almost totally...the blur is very poor imho and after you use the OR for five minutes you'll don't see it anymore! i'm sorry for bad english i'm from italy 😜

I was thinking of applying a filter or trying out some filters to blend the pixels last night, glad I found this.

I'll gather some materials found here in the UK and do some test with the lenses.

So has anyone tried this on cv1 rift?

You don't need to use it for CV1 because the lenses on the CV1 does a good enough job..
