Sony Electronics want's you spending thousands and thousands of dollars on a Sony TV, speakers and Bluray player. Sony Pictures wants you to plunk down $12+ every time you sit down for a movie in a theatre, neither of those corporate entities want you strapping a a couple hundred dollar headset to your face and putting on some good stereo headphones, that you bought for your PS4 and getting an experience that is better than what they are selling.

It's just my opinion but Sony crippling Morpheus so it can't compete with theater sales is baloney. It doesn't compete in resolution and I doubt it will compete in experience even with a big virtual screen. Besides, people using a Morpheus to watch a movie would be most likely doing it through a Sony PS4, paying the online subscription, and also paying someone (possibly even Sony) a movie rental fee. They still make money on the deal and it isn't like they get all of your $12+ theater ticket anyway. They have to pay employees, rent, electricity, maintenance, split the take with Regal or whoever (who owns or licenses the theater), etc. When you rent a movie from Sony, they make money multiple ways and probably more of it though I don't know their books to say.

Besides, if Sony wanted everyone spending thousands of dollars on their TVs, why do they sell $200 TVs? That's cheaper than what a Morpheus will cost. Seems like that breaks their income model that you claim even more so why do they do that?
But... but... but... I just NEED to know about the Baba! The Baba has me hypmotized!

I can not stress this enough but again, 60fps + 1080p oled will be good enough for the avarage joe.

And we can't stress enough that even an older smartphone can output a game at 60fps @ 1080p. By itself, res@fps is meaningless.

It's already been stated, the PS4 has barely any titles capable of running 60fps@1080p. Throw in VR overhead and we can expect games to look like typical PS3 games on Morpheus...but mostly just the 60fps titles, heavy PS3 games like uncharted would probably have to be turned down.

That doesn't mean games will be bad, I have no doubts that Morpheus will be successful, but you have to accept that Morpheus is the Wii of the VR race. Games will have to be specifically designed around the lesser hardware, and we will have to decide if a few good IP's make up for inferior visuals when putting down the money.

I agree pc`s are more flexible and more customizable, that is a nichemarket we are talking about here though and it`s more about visuals/performance than actual gameplay.

Ok, now this just seems like troll bait, but just in case, are you fricken' kidding? You do realize Battlefield 2 sold more copies than every uncharted game combined right? Yes, console games are profitable, but no one in the industry considers PC's a "niche market".

Second, everyone rails on consoles for shitty "AAA" titles with shit gameplay. I dont, but the general consensus is if you want great game play, you drop your gamepad FPS's and Gears of War clones, grab a steam account and go indie. PS4 is an OK runner up, with journey and dragons crown, but hands down the PC dominates in the "superior game-play without AAA graphics" department. Saying "Consoles have the best gameplay" is like saying "Halo invented FPS". Its a joke statement PC gamers use to make fun of ignorant console gamers.

Note, I love my consoles, I use them all, but keep the misinformation out of here please.

Sony knows what their problems are going to be, but there's not much they can do about them. I can tell you have a lot of faith in Sony and that's fine, but numbers are numbers. 60 fps isn't good enough for ideal VR experiences. Passable maybe, but not ideal. That's all I've been saying. This is about hardware performance, not software quality. Even if every Morpheus game is locked at 60 fps, it still won't be completely ideal. That means that some people who're more susceptible to VR sickness(myself and possibly you included) may be affected in a negative way. The comfort level is on a curve that gets better and better as the fps increases. Morpheus will always be operating at the bottom of this curve.

I'm actually a computer idiot. I don't know squat about PCs. I bought the Rift because it's a dream come true as I'm a huge gamer and love seeing technology being pushed forward. I figured it out pretty easily though and that was with no help and using a developer kit that wasn't intended for me. The retail version of the Rift will be even more streamlined and user friendly. Plug and play. Don't underestimate people these days. Computers are a way of life now. Most people can figure this stuff out pretty easily. If they can operate an Ipod and figure out itunes, they can operate a Rift. The real barrier for casual players is going to be the cost of a PC to run the Rift material properly.

Suffer was an appropriate word IMO. Try not to take this personally.

I too hope that these do well in the market and think Sony can make a good product. It remains to be seen how well this new medium will do, but I remain optimistic. I hope your faith is warranted and you're happy with the Morpheus when it launches. You've put a lot of time in defending something you haven't tried yet hehe.

You know what, you allmost convinced me, good job;) BUT when thinking about that Sony has Konami and NaughtyDog on their team im not worried at all about how VR will be on the ps4 in future VR games from these companys. Like i said, i can not miss out on the morpheus and i will get the oculus rift as well. VR is the future of gaming, even that tech demo i just posted on page 4 looks incredible, im so hyped about VR. Hope we will see some new VR games on E3 from both oculus and sony, not just tech demos but actual games. Probably thousands of people working around the clock to get their VR games ready for launch with the consumer rift.

Not taking anything personally here:) but it did sounded harsh not for me but for sony:) you sounded like the empereror in star wars or something only with an oculus rift strapped on your face saying "Sony must sufffferr!! Muhahahaaaa" im the elite gamer of the woooorld! Then came Joel and Ellie and fucked you up! 😛 hahaha end of story. 🙂

I'm saying facts. Whether or not you choose to believe them is up to you.

Konami isn't a Sony company.

Naughty Dog is great, but there's no guarantee they'll make Morpheus games. Even if they do, they won't have an fps higher than 60.

Not for you, but for Sony? You worried that I hurt this giant corporations feelings by saying that?

You do know that Joel and Ellie aren't real, right?

I know but Konami will allways make games for Sony, i doubt that will change anytime soon. I think they started to give out games for xbox as well just recently?

NaughtyDog is fantastic. No guarantee but i think they will sometime, there has been rumors of The last of us in VR,
i don't believe in rumors though.

You are kidding right? You know its a joke when talking about Sony, the emperor in starwars and joel and ellie in the same sentences 🙂

I might have used the wrong word harsh when commenting about what you said, english is not my native language.

Yes your numbers are fact but i believe Sony will pull this off and make a good enough VR hmd for millions to enjoy over the years with 60fps and 1080p screen. This is what i have said throughout this whole thread, some of you think it will fail it seems though.

Tell you what, ill will bring this thread up again in a couple years and ill highlight the most important stuff i wrote and you and everyone else in here will see most of it has become reality.
