The HYPE of Fallout 4 VR

Apparently Roy Taylor AMD VP feels it [Fallout 4 VR] will be the Mario or Sonic of VR in terms of shaping VR.

AMD’s corporate vice president Roy Taylor has, and he’s very convinced of its potential. “It will change the way we think about VR. It will be an industry changer,” he said, via MCV.

Todd Howard naturally hypes the game and allegedly said the following to Pete Hines:

"Fallout 4 VR is the most incredible thing you've ever seen in your life. You can't even imagine what it's like, playing in VR and how realistic it looks and everywhere you turn your head. It is going to blow your mind. It is the craziest thing you've ever seen."

A new demo will be showcased at E3 this year.

Ill tell you why Zen it's because I view VR porn (games not vids) as a kind of underground scene. A niche within a niche. A grassroots approach to adult interactive entertainment. I long for the day we can have fully interactive chracters with their own AI (perhaps that's my main interest in VR). VR is much more than gaming isn't it. So I am openly biased and excited with the development in this area. Sadly it's not an area with massive investment or visibility so my enjoyment is possibly less tempered. I appreciate that porn devs are usually just one person or a small team often working from passion and minimal financial return aside from Patreon donations.

I dont agree with screaming hyperbolic youtubers or game devs shouting up their wares though. So yeh you can call me contradictory but the difference here is the porn devs arent bigging up but maybe I am as an outsider or non affiliate . Perhaps there's a trust issue when someone like Todd Howard talks up his game rather than let it speak for itself. Maybe Iam a little too cynical. That said I h ave little doubt it will be a pretty sweet experience.

I'm glad that fallout can be purchased by rift owners. I played the lab and vanishing realms from Steam and they played great on oculus. I don't understand why someone would say if Fallout doesn't come on the Oculus I'm not going to play it.

Contradiction of the year goes to @snowdog

One minute you complain about lack of decent games on Steam then you crucify (sorry easter pun) Valve for not rushing out more "turds" as you describe 98% of what comes out on Steam are.

You changed what he said in order to pretend that he contradicted himself. The "I still believe in magic" award goes to @Atmos73

snowdog has been very consistent. He said that the Lab is the only thing worth playing, but overall the majority of Steam VR titles suck. And he is upset about Valve and HTC's overall progress. That is all very consistent, which is the opposite of a contradiction

Rifters just criticize everything Vive has until they get similar or the same then its great!

That's not even remotely true; and it's kinda crazy for you to say that when you're the only one exhibiting such behavior. You complained about Facebook privacy and swore to never install Oculus Home. Then you did, along with Revive, and now you think it's great 😄

The only thing the Rift has received that is similar to the Vive is roomscale and hand controllers. I don't see anyone bragging about roomscale being great. But the Touch is great... and in case you forgot, Oculus Touch is a far superior hand controller to the Vive's oversized magic wands. Another reminder: HTC is currently plagiarizing Touch wands and plan to release their clones soon.

I'm sure you, as a Vive user, will think that the HTC Touch clones are great!

No contradiction there at all. I've already stated that The Lab is one of the best games on Steam for a while. It's one of the 2%. If it was developed by anyone APART from Valve I'd be raving about it from the rooftops. Why didn't Valve have The Lab, Half Life 2 VR and Portal VR available on day one..? Or even The Lab and one of those other two available on day one.

They could have had Half Life 2 VR finished in around 6 months.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with short experiences and games as long as they're DECENT QUALITY short experiences and games. I actually meant to include The Lab in that list of great games on Steam in that other thread but it slipped my mind.

There's nothing wrong with short games and experiences. There's plenty of room for short games and experiences (that are good quality!) and epic full games. Why not have both available..?

My point was that Valve are actually damaging the VR ecosystem by allowing any old crap on Steam and they're doing too little too late with regards to their 3 games they're currently working on. Why didn't they have one of these launching alongside The Lab on launch day, the second one launching after the Vive had been out for 6 months and the last one at the one year anniversary..? They should have started work on these games at least 2 years ago if not before that.

I've never played any Fallout game on PC before so I'm hoping the hype is justified. I want it to be great for several reasons.

1/ Because Vive needs a Killer App
2/ Because VR needs a Kilker App
3/ To stop all the Rifters monotonous claims @snowdog that Oculus have all the best games.
4/ It will raise the bar for which all other AAA games will be judged.

But Even after all the flack Rifters dish out on these very Forums I hope Zenimax don't lock this just to Vive as PCVR should be enjoyed by all - including Rifters.

Sounds to me like someone is butthurt because their parent company for the HMD they chose decided it wasn't worth dropping one dime on software development whereas the competition has produced many quality titles.  The competition wants a little timed exclusivity since you know... They paid for the development of the software.  Isn't it shocking how Rifters "dish out flak" on their own forum?  Strange isn't it?

There is plenty of crap on Oculus Home. I paid for Syren and it's total garbage. I played it once. There are also a ton of games that I don't buy because I know they're crap.

VR is in it's early stages. Lots of amateurs offering half baked games.

Steam also has some cool games you can't find on Oculus Home.

There aren't a "ton" of games released for VR in total, so there really can't be a subset of that which counts as a ton.

The number of games that are fantastic on Oculus Home greatly overshadows the tiny percentage of playable games on Steam. If you managed to only buy the small percentage of "crap" then you can't fault the store. You just need to stop gravitating towards the crap section.

Atmos73  & Zenbane, but are you guys interested in Fallout 4 VR? Do you feel it's possible it could revolutionise VR due to the type of game it is? Lots of folks suggest there are too many throwaway experiences in VR, but something of Fallout 4's magnitude might be a breath of fresh air.

I remember playing Fallout 4 using VorpX and the cinema mode last year. Even in 3D it was great fun to play. So if Howard and co. have nailed it as a true VR experience then it should be fantastic and hopefully join RE7 as an example of a full AAA quality VR experience using a popular franchise.

Good to hear. Hyperbole from the developers aside, I think we all need to support this as it might kick some others into converting their games too. I believe RE7 has been wonderful for PSVR and Fallout 4 should follow suit for PC.

The difference is in the percentages mate. The vast majority of games available from Steam are a pile of old pants, the vast majority of games available from the Oculus Store are decent quality. Why..? Because Oculus have a Submission process and Steam don't.

I agree there are some awful games available in the Oculus Store, but those games and experiences are in the minority.

It's the difference in quality between Steam games and Oculus Store games that have been the reason for Vive owners having kittens about their Vives not being natively compatible in Oculus Home, any honest Vive owner that's been harping on about it for the last year will tell you that.
