The Rift Release - What AAA will we play?

Madaras

First I'd like to know if there are any "confirmed" AAA titles that will either be released along with the Rift or will work to become compatible with VR? Next I'll state what I'm hoping to play on the Rift after or soon after release. Also please list your own.

AAA
Fallout 4
Starcraft: Legacy of the Void (I'm really intrigued with how RTS will be done in VR)
Elder scrolls: Unknown (Not online, but a real ES game)

Other
7 Days to Die (Or other similar zombie survival game)
Enter the Forest

well obviously Elite Dangerous will be an AAA title you can play.

however, i am a bit concerned that there doesn't seem to be many full fledged games available for the OR release. i mean we have a ton of demos all over the place but nothing has been confirmed for early 2016. i had high hopes for Technolust, but that one also seems a long way from being finished. As long as Skyrim will be playable on it i can be happy for a while longer i guess..

A video was recently posted by Oculus and surprisingly it talks about this. Go to minute 20 or simply go ahead and watch the whole thing. Of course the facebook guy doesn't really say anything, and I think he was up there just to be up there.

Good topic.

And I also, like morenosuba, "am a bit concerned". AAA lineup is on the course to Los Disappointos IMHO.
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore. Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash. Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

I say we should let the indies have their spot in the VR sun before AAA studios move in. Indy devs brought us this far and we shouldn't sell them short.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

Indies shine when they're good, are blown away when they're bad. Just because we love AAA games doesn't mean we don't love indies. There are a few diamonds among indies, but I love them because indies aren't "always" afraid to try new things...and I just learned some sad news. The Sims has finally died. Though since they have died that leaves room for another developer to fill the void. Same with the Monster Rancher series, and indies are just the types that can take an idea like one of them and make it their own.

I have confidence in EVE Valkyre, does that count to be an AAA title?
Asetto Corsa/Project Cars are both pretty awesome too, even with the DK2.

It should count imo. And I'd also include Edge Of Nowhere and Lucky's Tale as AAA titles too. And then we have The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter too.

I'd love Platinum Games to jump in and support VR but their games are so mental that I can see even people that have a very high resistance to simulation sickness throwing up lololol

You can't be serious. Just compare LT to Ratchet Tools of Destruction on PS3 (60fps ps3 game is not a problem for PC VR even if you target middle-end instead of high-end.
LT is about one meter from indie and one light year from AAA. Both in terms of quality and scale of the game.
And in terms of graphics it has so detailed geometry that it strongly suggest it's being made with future Gear VR port in mind. And last but not least, infantile world and characters. Everything.
Insomiac, ND, Rare proved that this genre of games can have big budget productions that don't alienate adult gamers with how they look and who's the target for the jokes.
My prediction is that ND will create J&D IV for PSVR some years from now, then you will be able to compare AAA VR platformer to Lucky's Tale. The comparison will give you clear answer even if the graphics won't leave LT in the dust. It might happen that VR won't see any truly AAA platform game in this decade, but I'd like to think ND will get interested in VR pretty soon, so the game release will happen when PSVR user base is big, and just in time for the development process to be a break from doing serious narrative games after TLoU, U4, TLoU 2 and maybe some other game. They will get bored a little eventually. And ND always loved challenges and never hasitated before walking into uncharted (:D) territories. It's a little ultraoptimistic, but one can dream. About a miracle within miracle too, so I don't cross-out the PC Rift version (J&D creator happens to work at Oculus, might help with the talks "a little" 😉 ).
I might be biased since I love this genre, but I think platform games of high quality, done in a way ND and Insomiac created them, have huge VR potential. Just imagine race sections, flying sections, It was so much fun even in 2D on PS2 and PS3. So much different worlds that don't require realistic lighting since they're not in our world by definition. So much possibilities for creating eye pleasuring visuals. So much potential in motion control, almost every idea from whole VR gaming could be borrowed for one of many mini-games, similar to the ones that were so perfectly executed in J&D and R&C games on PS2 and PS3. (Don't get me wrong - of course mini-games in large quantities would work only if the whole game is huge, and traditional platforming or platforming/shooting sections should be in majority.)

Over a decade ago, some developer went into "borrow-spree". They managed to create the game with boundaries so wide that they could go from conference to conference, from game to game, noting "this and this is awesome - we must have something like this in our game", so it might be a fun thing for the dev to get excited and by not constraining themselves within limitations the serious games or one-genre games enforce, they could just throw in everything they think is awesome in whole gaming industry. Oh, that mentioned dev was PCF and the game that was created was named Painkiller. One of the best and most awesome games I've ever played. I wish ND some day allows themselves to have some fun with fruits of that fun equally awesome for the gamers. 🙂

Here's a question for everyone, what AAA studio would you like to see create a game for VR BUT (and here's the tricky part) the game they make cannot be based on a previously successful title. The game MUST be completely new and original.

I'd put my money on Gearbox. I'd love to see a VR title from them that isn't "Borderlands: The Rehashing", something entirely different.

So what AAA studio do you think might be up for that challenge?
