The V60 update - it is any good and how much did it break ?

DownunderGrumpy

When I turned my headset on today I was asked if I want to install the V60 update.
Asked because I just recently disabled the automatic firmware updates in the developer settings.

We can now not only enjoy all the protection Google offers but also the added protection Meta provides.
Meaning even more website with harmful content will fail to reach us in our headsets.
It also means that Sideloaded apps might stop working - if they are considered 'harmful' by either Meta or Google.
Using Google as the default search engine already provides a rather limited experience.
But imagine websites you have no issues reaching from other devices won't show up on your headset....

We also get more for Horizon and our worlds there.
And it seems clear already that the Horizon concept is a paid experience and great way for some to make money.
On the other hand, things we take for granted on other Android Devices are still missing or what we had is discontinued by Meta and no longer works for anything good.
It is surprisingly hard to find a comprehensive log or such for our firmware updates.
But we keep seeing how feature requests are still ignored and how real improvements for the user are still on the to do list.

We pushed by Meta to keep investing money into our headsets and flooded with offers.
But what about all those 'scammers' in the feedback rating offering discounts so they get the few bucks extra into their accounts ?
For some titles there is more of these scammers than actual feedback - almost as if Meta is paying to do so, which is true by the way....

Where is proper DLNA support out of the box?
Where a filemanger with working network access so we won't have to hook up to the computer all the time?
Where the options to easily and freely customise the home environment ?
There is feature requests going back to the Quest 1 that are still on the to do list- will we ever see them addressed ?
I can activate the USB file transfer mode and use a USB stick for a lot of nice things....
But I still can't go into the device settings to do a LOCAL backup, only cloud....
Of course no option to do a comprehensive backup with all settings, apps and sideloaded content either....
Did Meta, at any point consider what a hassle it is for all those users falling for the support suggestion that factory reset will fix things ???
It can take several hours to restore things to what they were before and the stupid setup procedure is joke considering at least the phone app should realise the headset has to be restored to the previous state and do so automatically.
Plug in a USB stick of good capacity, go into the recovery mode and select a full LOCAL backup.
Do this after the initial setup of the device to have a proper starting point and then again after setting up your favourite apps.
This would be most helpful not just for single users but even more so for people having multiple users in the family.
Can we ever expect this feature to work ?

If you already updated to the V60 - What is your impression so far?
Noticed any severe bugs or added bloatware, apps or games no longer working ?

Chromecasting to my TV has been completely broken just in time for Christmas!!!

Hey @mr.e777.7! We know how much fun it can be to share your VR experiencing with your friends and family. That said, we'd love to jump in and try to offer some assistance here. For clarification, are these the steps you are using to try and cast to your TV?:

  1. Open the Meta Quest mobile app on your phone.
  2. Select in the top right of your screen.
  3. Under Cast From, select the headset you'd like to cast from.
    • Make sure it says Connected under your listed headset.
  4. Under Cast To, select This Phone or the Chromecast device you want to use.
  5. Tap Start at the bottom of your screen, put your headset on and accept the in-VR prompt to start casting

If you're still unable to get the Chromecast to work with the headset, the following extra steps might be able help:

  • Try to cast with another phone
  • Try to cast from another app (Netflix, Spotify, YouTube)
  • Ensure all 3 devices are on the exact same network. (ex. If the router has a 5GHZ and 2GHZ channel, all the devices must be on the same channel)

We hope that helps resolve your issue, and allows you to fully enjoy your device to greatest potential.

Obviously everyone here is still having the issue, this is a terrible reply. It is absolutely not resolved.
