Ok, that video alleviates most of my controller concerns.

The Quest 3 controllers still have the IR constellation for tracking, just on the body instead of a ring. Then there's sensor fusion with the hand tracking for when the LEDs are obscured (and IMU as usual).

But it's clear that the overhead tracking coverage is zero, compared to pretty good on the Quest 1-2, and great on the Rift-S and Rift CV1.

If only there was some way to have external cameras placed around the play space, that could see the controllers from different directions and have less occlusion... nah, that's a crazy idea.

Looking forward to have them on my head!

I hope they raise the quality of the controllers as those of the OQ2 get damaged very easy.

One of them came damaged from factory. The joystick moved without touching it. I requested for a replacement and not long ago the other one started to do the same, no hits or falls, just after using it for less than one year.

Anyway, Maybe it's too early but I'd like to know if It will be possible to use the same account/games I have on the OQ2 and if so, is it possible to give the OQ2 to my nephew and use his own account?

Thanks

Hey there! I believe as long as it is standalone games you should have everything in the newest device. However, this is just my opinion. Just like normal any games that are right/link you will need to make sure to have the correct version of the game.

We are all mad here.

I'm really not into using mobile gpus for VR, but that said the Quest 3 could be a nice jump in the right direction. It seems the Quest 3 will use the Adreno 740 gpu, which has 3.6 tflops - or 3 times the speed of the Quest 2's Adreno 650 gpu at 1.2 tflops. Strangely, Meta says the Quest 3 is twice as fast as the Quest 2, but not 3 times faster. Of course there's no 1:1 ratio between tflops and game performance, and Meta may not be running the Adreno 740 at full speed to save battery... Adreno 740 with 3.6 tflops is close to the GTX 970 with 4 tflops (PS4 Pro can do 4.2 tflops).

Adreno 740 needs to be confirmed though, but this probably is quite accurate:

Problem in this catch-up game is that PCs have gotten a lot faster the last years - but if the Quest 3 really gets to use 3.6 tflops then it's not bad for a mobile chip - and close to low-end PC performance in 2016 (admitted that's 7 years ago - but Meta may be able to port many early Rift games to Quest 3 with little effort if they choose to do so, as many worked with a GTX 970).
I need to have the 3.6-3.7 tflops confirmed for the Adreno 740 though, the numbers I find range from 2.2 tflops to 3.7 tflops.
Could mean that XR3 will enter the low-end PC territory when that one comes out.

In short - going from Quest 1 to Quest 2 was a big leap for users of standalone, and the leap from Quest 2 to Quest 3 might be a lot bigger - we'll see.

Meta seem to favour throttling and then delivering processor upgrades after the headset's been used in the wild for a while and the thermals prove to be good. We'll soon be getting boosts for the Q2 (and Pro to a lesser extent). I don't know if more testing prior to launch is the answer to risk avoidance on their part! I guess it makes for good PR when upgrades come.... definitely better than the PR they'd get if they had to do the opposite 😮

That GPU and CPU boost should be here any time now—the v55 PTC release was supposed to rollout this week. For Quest 2, it’s an up to 26% CPU clock rate increase, and 19% GPU clock boost. That’s on top of the 7% GPU increase that they did in December. The GPU has gone from 490 to 525, and now to 625 MHz.

It's a pretty big boost the timing whether intentional or not, shows of Meta's commitment to keeping the Quest 2 going for another few years. I'm happy to keep mine as my transportable headset now and the Pro probably as my PCVR and Horizon development headset.

I'll definitely be getting a Q3 as my daily use headset, but my Q2 will continue to serve for development (testing stand-alone builds). Also for occasional Walkabout Mini Golf with my daughter.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Little bit shocked by the price of this...

$499 - convert on Google - £399.

Price to us according to current website - £499 ☹️  I hope this is adjusted when it comes to release.

I believe there are other countries which also lose out like this?
