This Kickstarter Needs More Love!

I am really liking this:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nimblevr/nimble-sense-bring-your-hands-into-virtual-reality

Check out their kickstarter video:

and this one with the Leap Motion side by side:

Two great products and both super affordable which is key afaiac for vr controls! I have backed both.

Here is another video with game interaction with the nimble:

I really think this is going to the type of must have accessory for gamers to get even more easily affordable immersion with the Rift...assuming devs integrate it seamlessly.

They have already hit their funding goal, but would love to see what they come up with for stretch goals...30 days to go for their kickstarter.

Give em some sugar if this interests you.

I have a Leap and mount that have been great (albeit definitely beta). I definitely agree this type of interaction is key for VR. The first time I saw my hands in VR I was drooling all day 🙂

I saw this Kickstarter for Nimble last week and it is cool more options for hand tracking are popping up although I am worried that their target 45fps won't be nearly fast enough for VR - hand latency would really suck.

I didn't follow this too closely. What are some of the best leap demos for the Oculus?

This looks like a very good idea. Cheaper solution than Control VR, yet equally precise (at least, it seems so from videos).

What amazed me is the fact, that the camera can be used not only to track hands, but also to scan your near surroundings. The only thing I'm concerned about is latency - they mention in FAQ that each frame is captured every 20 ms. Still... it's a dev product, like the Rift was when it was added to Kickstarter. I wonder how this will develop within years.

yea this kickstarter project could really need more love BUT i think its somehow senseless. :?
i dont see any real advantages comparing to the current leap motion (maybe better software...?)
we are now in a time period where vr is envolving really quick.
currently there are no real standards, as standards are made for the masses so everyone is trying to get a piece of the cake.
a controller for vr is very important and i think that systems, where you dont need to wear something external on your limbs, will be the future of controlling

oculus IS aware of the controller situation and i'm sure they allready have a solution in their labs..
my bet is that it is a form of the new leap motion dragonfly prototype!

don't missunderstand me, i dont think we should all make our bets on oculus but i think they currently have the best horses in their stales 😉
...why so serious?

If Oculus is working with Leap Motion, that would be big news...do you have any reports or even rumored reports to back this up?

Cyber? Can you give us a non hint hint?

In any event both Leap and Nimble are cheap relatively speaking so I went in on both.

sorry i dont wanted to spread some rumors or something 😉
this was just MY personal opinion! :!:

but it would make perfect sense
if you compare all the input devices arround used with the rift, the most appealing method was the leap...

on the leaps website you can find:
...
At the same time, I’d like to also give a hint of what we’re working on for the future. One prototype sensor that we’re beginning to show today (and will be giving out more information on in the future) is codenamed “Dragonfly.” Designed to be embedded by VR OEMs, Dragonfly possesses greater-than-HD image resolution, color and infrared imagery, and a significantly larger field of view.

With next-generation “mega-sensors” like this, a Leap Motion device can literally become your eyes into the digital and physical realms – allowing you to seamlessly mix and mash, fade and blend, between virtual environments and the sharpness of the real world.
...

(notice the bold part)
so this would be a all in one solution for the rift: control device + see through possibility (=AR support)

again this are just my personal speculations

That looks brilliant.

Could it also be used for positional head tracking maybe?

Pointless you mean. Well, leap motion ain't cheap. They are a competing company, so who knows, it's just competing products.

If CV1 comes with some competent, embedded motion and visual sensor tech (whatever it may be), then that's gonna put a serious dent in the competition.

sorry i was never good when it comes to choice of words 😉
anyway you're absolutely right with the competing argument, we know there is allways room for improvement :ugeek:
