This is what Rift with Touch will be like.

I'm not being hyperbolic when I tell you that THIS is what you can expect with a Rift and Touch when playing something like Universe Sandbox 2 in VR. I know because I played it last night (and the night before that) with my Vive.

Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

Could Touch be coming Q3?  With so much negativity around here lately, I like to be optimistic and say yes - a look to the ceiling means "yes!"  That said, I won't expect it to actually be in my hands until Q4 so as to avoid disappointment, but I will remain positively hopeful!

When they come out you won't need them because the suit will be out by then just have to pick a color I would like in flourescent green please.

There's a constellation viewing app that I tried some time ago with the DK2 and Leap Motion that reminds me very much of this.  You could actually reach out barehanded and pluck a constellation from the virtual sky to bring it closer and learn more about it.  True hand tracking like that kind of spoils the stick-presence which Vive wands offer up in the same situation, unfortunately.

Now if only Leap Motion were remotely as dependable or well supported as the Vive wands are.

I honestly don't feel Touch will be out this year, which is part of the reason I cancelled my Rift order.

whilst you may be right........ what gives you this impression?
just because of the issues with component shortages with the hmd, i do not see why this should have any effect on the launch of the controllers.

I am fairly confident touch will be out this year myself.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

yeah but rift pre-orderers get priority, and my totally uneducated thought is, the touch controllers will be FAR less complex to produce than the HMD so less likely for manufacture problems.

imo the thing which could delay it (and if so i would happily take this) would be if oculus are currently saying oh sh@$     !!!!!!!!    full room vr is amazing and we have to go all in on it like the vive has done, and they are actually designing a new 2 camera front tracking solution to bundle in which allow the rear camera (the current camera we have already) to be used for albeit less detailed, full room tracking for when you turn around.

Did you miss what is happening with the shipments? They are NOT going in order of pre-order timing, they are going in waves, country by country. People that pre-ordered minutes, days, and even weeks after you, are getting their Rift shipped already, because they happen to be in the same batch as others. There is no such thing as priority. I don't see why they will want to do differently for the Touch.

They know approximately how many Touch orders they have to fill thanks to the checkbox on the pre-order form.  They have a lot more information about how many they need to manufacture and ship.  So I am confident we will see Touch released this year.  They might even get some financial backing from Facebook this time...they might even get a more reliable manufacturing partner.

These are also controllers with more standard components, not HMDs with custom everything.  🙂
