Tripped over cord while using VR headset, and the USB cable snapped.

I tripped over the cord going into the computer and I ended up snapping the USB port on the cable after the third day of having an Oculus Rift.
The HDMI port however didnt break, but when I plug my HDMI into my rift, Oculus Setup doesnt detect that HDMI is plugged in.  Shouldnt it still detect the HDMI but obviously not the USB? I'm just afraid I broke the port that plugs into the Headset. I have a new cable coming in next weekend so I wont know until then.

I don't think that it's unusual that the HDMI isn't detected any longer when the USB connection fails. Since the headset is powered over USB, it is as if you would plug in a non-powered monitor, which would also not be recognized by your computer.
Stay optimistic and hope that the new cable fixes everything...
Good luck!

Worst case scenario, would I be able to buy the Oculus Rift headset by itself, without the cable, sensors, or touch controllers so that I dont have to blow another $400 to buy a whole new kit?  Right?

...Right??? I'd rather spend $200 on just replacing the headset....

You should be able to do that but you can’t.

Try contacting cybereality to find out your options.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

Contact support, maybe they will be nice enough to start a warranty claim 🙂 or send you a new cable.

I think they sell replacement cables that would be your cheapest route.
WAAAGH!

Sounds like the port, not the cable.

I'd be tempted to look at iFixit's tear-down of the Rift and decide if buying a cheap damaged/faulty Rift is an option and swapping over the offending circuit board/socket. Assuming that the second-hand Rift you buy doesn't have a USB fault.

Open a support ticket first though if you haven't already & get their advice.

Why would it be the port? I tripped over the cable and I snapped the USB, then it stopped working. Theres no wiggle room on the port on the headset for it to really break anything. It cant be yanked too far left or right, and the headset never hit the floor. It was on my head when the USB cable snapped.

Ok sorry,  I thought you meant in your second post you broke you port... you obviously meant you didn't know whether it was the port you broke, but you were afraid it might be.

English can be so complicated.

In that case, definitely replace the cable... no-brainer.
