True black smearing in DK2

After the EULA post, i started to browse treads in reddit and i found about this problem, i would like to know why it happens. It has to do with the AMOLED matrix? for example, the capacitor in the pixel circuit delaying the pixel due to charge time? or what is the reason of this problem.

Fingers crossed its just driver / SKD optimization that required!

What surprises me most is that we're only hearing about this now. How has this problem existed all these months without someone commenting on it? I've never heard this mentioned before by anyone. Not even Road to VR or the Tested guys. Seems strange is all. Unless it actually is a software issue and they can fix it...

It could be a problem with the production screens that wasn't evident in the earlier prototypes, but I suspect that it might simply be a problem with using absolute black. Using a very slightly lighter bottom limit (0.001,0.001,0.001 instead of 0,0,0, for instance) might alleviate the issue.

Looking at screenshots from EVE Valkyrie, I don't see a lot of absolute black, but rather very dark blues and purples.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I made a quick video, that represents the black smearing / purple glow. This is taken from the boiler room demo. Look at the top of the pipe, you will see the purple slightly cover the pipe when the headset moves. Ignore the flicker, that is just from the recording, it does not flicker in the headset, and the black/purple blur is much more pronounced in the headset.

Heres another, maybe a little more clear. Look at the circular gauge, how the black smears over

It really worries me, because i have been reading on reddit that phone displays have an even more pronounced effect, so i think probably is hardware issue related to current AMOLED technology, but if VR really takes off and with the Oculus VR-Samsung partnership i bet the problem is going to be solved relatively quickly.
Fingers crossed

Holy fuck. It's completely noticeable on top of the vertical pipes. I was looking first at the uppermost pipes wondering what you were talking about, but then looked at the vertical pipes and they're clearly there.

Almost looks like some sort of purplish goo washes over them before it dissipates.

I'm still leaning toward (and hoping for) a software issue. Reverend Kyle on reddit said that Elite looked amazing. He hypothesized that black with little else= no smudge. Doesn't feel like a display thing. Plus..if it was something this bad, how have we not heard about it until now. Hasn't this screen finalized for a while now.

I like how the team never told us about this

If we think about though, when was DK2 first revealed? Back in March correct?

The only demos that they showed in the reveal was Couch Knights and that Unreal RTS demo. Those didn't have much black. In E3, they demo'd again Couch Knights and the Aliens demo. I would think this would have been noticeable in the Aliens demo. The other demo was Lucky's Tale which didn't have much black.

Then in Anime Expo 2014, they demo'd the Sword Art Online experience. Those had a few dark areas as well with the battle with Asuna.

To tell you guys honestly, I think this is the hardware issue that Oculus referred to that they weren't able to fix in time for release of the DK2.

I'm amazed that no staff have commented on this yet, this is pretty groundbreaking, even for developers.

How can they build an immersivee environment? take out the color black? bah, not having a bar of it.
