Two questions regarding ASW

Rifts

Ever since the update yesterday I've been able to play my games on much higher settings than I could before, and this is awesome and got me curious, since I'm no expert on the field.
  • Why is it not used in normal 2D monitor games?
  • Would PSVR be better off with ASW instead of reprojection?

There is no reason as to why it cannot be used for normal 2d monitor games.  However I guess as even a gtx 970 can handle high framerates at HD, this is probably not used for this reason, unlike VR that requires a lot more grunt.

I've no idea on the second point. As for the first, maybe this is cutting edge stuff that nobody has managed to get working this well before.

@thealgorithm Yes but there are still games that are very demanding like Battlefield 1 etc, especially if you're gaming in 4K. The minimum specs would be a lot lower for maintaining only 30 fps, and they'd be able to target a much larger audience with their product.

@Storm_Cloud That could be true and also very embarrassing, that the gaming industry hasn't been able to figure it out for 30+ years yet Oculus managed to cut requirements by 50% in less than a year.

Star wars force unleashed 2 was the first game I think to use this technique, so it's not oculus original.  Not sure why other games didn't  carried on this option since it wouldn't be hard to implement.
