Hello. I had the Quest 2 for a few days, but returned it because I had to keep doing factory resets. A few examples are:
So I'm thinking of buying the Quest 3 hopping that some of these issues are resolved. My main question is: I don't have USB C built into my system. I don't know if USB 3.0 will be fast enough for the quest 3. Meta made this really complicated by adding USB-C at this stage, most people don't have it. Should have added a direct connection to the video card and a separate charger for the wall with a long cable for Steam players. I'm really to drop the cash, but the hook up leaves me no versatile option to even consider it.
The Quest is an amazing devise, I really want to make this work, but buying a new system is not practical for me. My system plays almost every modern game flawless.

I wanted to jump in here and add that the USB-C is solely for connection to the Quest devices for purposes of charging and PCVR through Link Cable. It's highly recommended for you to use USB 3.0 when playing through Link Cable!

Link will generally work with any good quality USB 3 cable, you don't need USB-C on the PC. Amazon sell a bunch of long USB-A to USB-C cables that are explicitly listed as Link compatible

@BossStarstreams TBH if you couldn’t manage to get your previous Q2 to work properly doing PCVR by doing a little more troubleshooting, including contacting meta support, including your log file, then I don’t think you’ll magically have more PCVR success with a Q3.
Your motherboard and ddr3 ram are both pretty outdated, probably also your cpu (which you didn’t list). Your GPU is probably ok for most PCVR games but maybe not complex flight sims.
A Q3 will give you a lot better standalone VR/MR than an Q2 and maybe that will give you all the VR gaming you need for now, and it’s a lot more user friendly than PCVR.

To be honest, I just don't know what order to load everything. I've got, Virtual Desktop, Oculus software and SteamVR installed, but there's so many buttons, don't really know what buttons I'm oppose to click to launch games. I kind of feel like all this VR stuff is still in experimental stages, the standards are not there, or the gaming industry has not caught up.
I got the Air link to work with Quest 3, but I need to order a cable. It's just you don't know what to believe with the review when you look up cables, you have people that say each one is great, and then others that say they don't work, don't buy them. https://www.bestproductsreviews.com/oculus-link-cable-usb-c?targetid=dsa-638704445483&matchtype=&dev...
For some reason I thought you could turn a none VR game such as ArmA 3 into a VR kind of view using Meta Virtual Desktop.

I think the limiting factor is that there are no direct hookups to the display card, My friend has a older Oculus and it hooks right to his card, he plays all his car racing games no issues. If meta made some versions of this VR headset with direct hook ups for older systems, there would be no issues. A massive number of people cut out don't have computers newer than 3 or 4 years. My games run extremely smooth. If you can run ArmA with huge AI way points as I do, you can run anything. I keep unneeded services very trimmed down. I don't let stuff run wild on here. No issues with any of the games mentioned.
Any VR can handle standalone just fine. Again, I think taking away direct hookups to the display card was like forcing everyone in the US to buy electric cars before the grid was even in place.

Hey @BossStarstreams! There are lots of different VR headsets available, each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some are designed exclusively for PCVR, while others like the Quest offer standalone play as well. If you would like to see changes made to the device or suggest a different focus for future products, the best place to let the developers know is on the ideas section.

I feel Pico did it the right way with the Pico Neo3 Link. It was a Quest style snapdragon based stand alone VR headset, but it also had a display port so you could do a full lossless video connection instead of compressed USB streaming.
Sadly we now have 4 Quest models out and no sign of ever going back to direct video.
Pico also followed suit and the Pico 4 lost the display port. 😞

Well I'm sure Meta will get it worked out. But I'm surprised that I would have to mention this in the idea's section. I mean. If they just look out the window and read the posts across the internet they might figure this out on their own. I mean who is managing marketing and research in the company. The Horizon worlds is a brilliant idea, but the games look like they were made in the 80s. Especially that one where the dinosaur chases you around the house. I own stock in this company and it's doing very well, but If they're making decisions like this it's kind of a red flag. I'm watching things closely.
