Ultrabook Support?

I need a "portable as possible" solution, are there any ultrabooks that will work with the Rift? Not playing any hardcore games, mostly for VR Video use.

Alienware 13 R3 (GTX 1060) works great with the CV1 and two sensors...it's not an Ultrabook though. I used a 17 inch gaming laptop for a while so the 13 inch gaming laptop feels like an Ultrabook in comparison now.  I don't care about the size because I don't use the screen when I use VR 🙂 and when I am not in VR I doc with an 27 inch external monitor anyway.

It's not really an issue of "hardcore gaming" versus VR video, you still need a system with a supported dedicated video card, or else the Rift just won't work at all.

If all you want is portable VR video, a Gear VR might suit your needs better than a Rift.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

No SDE either 😛
Well, a lot less.

I already own a Rift attached to a beast desktop. Would love to take it on the road to show demos to potential clients.

Most Ultrabooks would probably have low-end Intel GPUs and not work in VR. There are a few smaller gaming laptops that could work, like the new Razer Blade which should be compatible. Just look for laptops with a GTX 1060 card (very important) as older or lower end GPUs most likely won't work.

The Razer Blade with a GTX 1060 was the other laptop I seriously considered. It's a bit smaller and lighter than the Alienware 13 R3 but costs a lot more. The Alienware 13 R3 has an OLED screen though which now that I have one I don't ever want to go back. The Alienware 13 R3 also runs Ubuntu 16.10 great (I can't change the LED lights from Linux but there is some code on gtihub that claims it can do that - I could care less about this).

I go with matskatsaba's recommendation of Gear VR. Definitely the most practical solution for video, and cheaper than any VR-capable laptop.
