I just updated the SDK and Runtime to .8 and my DK2 is not showing up in Nvidia Control Panel. All that being said the unit is working fine and I've just finished updating old demos. However, Im not able to make any adjustments like i used to be able to in older runtimes. It is only showing info for my main display. Im wondering if it is running at the 75 Hertz since this is something I used to change manually before? My main monitor is 60 Hz only.
Also I'm wondering if there are any setting i should be changing anywhere to maximize performance and quality? It seems like it is just plug and play now with no adjustments necessary. thanks!!
With the 0.7 runtime and above, the Oculus DK2 runs in "Direct Mode" all the time, which means it does not show up in Nvidia Control Panel at all so you cannot make any visual adjustments such as frame-rate control like you used to in older runtimes. the DK2 will always run at 75hz as that is what it was designed to do.
The reason for this is that Oculus wants ultimate compatibility when the CV1 is released early next year, so they removed "Extended Mode" to make it ultra simple for people who arnt so tech savy to be able to grab the Rift, plug it in, boot up the game and jump right in with little to no configuration.
If you still need Extended Mode then there are lots of forum posts where people have been able to hack the runtime to enable this primitive VR injection. Ultimately though you WILL want to run "Direct Mode" even though some of the VR Apps you love might not quite support it yet.
