@kojack not sure if you're still around buddy, but that thing you made ages ago has sent ripples through space and time. Thank you!

And thanks to SpeakEasyArcade for this awesome AHK Script.

Oculus Rift is now  - actually the best way to play DooM VFR.

Oh the irony.

I wish this was the only fix the game needed but the hands are so bad its unplayable at the moment in the rift, the guns are terrible to hold in the hands and you can't aim properly.

Then the sound and tracking problems too.

How long do you guys reckon it will take them to add full touch support and fix the hands orientation? Weeks or months?

What's the full playtime of the game? From what I can gather from YouTube playthroughs it is roughly 3 hours. Is that about right?

Also, some of those battles are rather cheesey. Check out this guy killing a baddie by hiding between game Assets near an out-of-bounds area:

Yup, I think it's around 3 hours but like the other games in the franchise that doesn't include the time you need to find all of the secrets. I managed to get the game for peanuts, 9 quid or so if I'm remembering correctly), so I'm not too bothered with it being a short game.

My first playthrough was around 2 hours mostly using Gamepad mode (this was before the locomotion mod). My first speedrun came in at 1:01:20. I've still yet to complete a run using the free locomotion mod, the motion control teleport is way slower than gamepad teleport .. aiming with left hand and clicking the analog stick to teleport is really frustrating, I wish I could rebind it (unfortunately its hardcoded).

If you're an avid VR FPS player I suspect 2-3 hours is reasonable for a first playthrough.

So how do you use this so that you don't teleport in Doom?

Unfortunately the game is TOO designed around teleport. The levels are designed in such a way that you have to teleport in some sections. There are a few levels you could get away with not teleporting .. but several of them require it. You can however, add jumping back into the game and TRY to use that .. though I'm pretty sure you will still get blocked with a teleport requirement.

Anyone who's tried this, is there a way to make it controller-oriented movement, or is it still locked to HMD-forward?

Nope. unfortunately the "locomotion" works based on the gamepad mode, where the gamepad itself is untracked .. therefore the HMD is the only option I'm afraid.

Looks great...

Seeing how it plays with full locomotion, I don't understand what stopped them from modding the full game. My hunch is they were scared off by VR motionsicness. Otherwise, the entire orginal game could be in VR.

I wonder if there is any way to mod this and port the orginal levels to this version.

Is there a fix for aiming?

Not sure what you're referring to exactly, aiming appears to work fine for me. What happens for you?

Nevermind it worked! 😄
