I would say $1000 and worth every penny and better value for money than the Oculus when you consider what comes in the box. Remeber the Oculus Rift is 600, then add likely another $200-300 for the controllers/sensors and then the sensors they want to add down the line etc...

If those two controllers + extra camera are $300, Oculus have lost their damn minds.

I can live with paying $630 for the headset, but an extra $300 for the controllers? Fuck that noise.

Keep in mind this is part of HTC's master plan to recover from a dying cell phone segment. So they may actually try to draw a profit. Unless Valve is subsidizing the headsets.

I would get ready for some massive sticker shock, only die hards are going to be playing Vive this year.

Not necessarily. I remember when CD players were about $2000 (not including today's inflation factor) 🙂

Why would it be dead? Let's be honest. Fullroom tracking isn't what we really need for gaming. HTC Vive looks great for some bigger companies. You can demonstrate things like virtual cards, travel locations and so on.

HTC Vive doesn't need gamers to be sucessfull. There are many more useful applications for it.

I don't see how HTC recovers selling a few hundred units at $1500, they're trying to save a company, not pay off a house loan. Seriously though, if the Vive comes out at $1500, it'll make the internet's response to the Rift price point seem downright supportive. If we accept that $600 is the cheapest you can make a consumer-quality HMD for, and consider that HTC is bundling controllers and Lighthouse, I think they're going to really struggle to find the right price point. $800 or $1000 and they could still get some traction with the high-end market, but I'm not sure they're going to be as profitable as HTC needs this to be at that price. $1200 seems more likely to me, and given that the Vive is already not as well known as the Rift, it's not going to be an easy sell at that cost, maybe if they could price it at $1100, just so they can say it's not double the price of the Rift.

That's true, the price difference is negligible for a company if they can really make use of the Vive's additional features. The ability to see the world around you at the press of a button is also going to be a huge help in using VR in that sort of setting. I'd really be interested to see what sort of industrial and commercial partners both HTC/Vive and Oculus/Facebook have for their respective HMDs, as that market could could become fairly sizable, especially when you consider the volume some companies would need to get an HMD in every office.

Yeah, pretty much like oculus...
Oh, when was my delivery date? oh! yes, in may...

Price don't kill innovatio, crappy quality kills innovation, if the tech is worth is, you will be surprised in how many ppl will spend 1500$ for the vive 🙂

I mean, a titan X is basically useless in gaming... ges what, is sold alot before the 980ti arrived (and still now seem to be selling enough to keep producing it)

Also: Sorry my monstrous english... ^_^''
