Meh. Escape Room games are the new wave shooters as far as I'm concerned. They're popping up all over the place. Way too many of them.

Agree - so many of them.... that you could fill a facility with them so players could pay you money to play them!!!

Like complaining there are too many Blockbuster movie releases. If you are running a Movie theater, it starts to rain money, before disappointment! B)

I've still not been to one of these yet, and there's a few awesome ones around me here in the LA area - definitely making a mental note of this.

Just back from client and conference meets in LA - and managed to be escorted around a number of the leading VR Arcade's in the area (was surprised how many there are). Made a lot of notes and took pictures that will go into some articles and the next VRF column.

[Note - try the Eagle Flight setup at IMAX VR in LA, if you have the time]

Off to Paris now, to see the number of new facilities that just opened there!

The difference is that the vast majority of films are different genres, different plots. If you're running a cinema it won't start raining money if all of your films you show are pretty much the same. Everyone got sick to the death of wave shooters after a while and Escape Room games will soon follow.

The analogy between VR Arcade and Cinema is tenuous, and I used it as simple expediency, but I can still say, that the hoard of ComicBook hero films could be seen as that continuing genre, that still rakes in billions for this sector.

Funny enough I am typing up the notes as we speak from the recent Cinema Tradeshow, where theater operators revealed plans to launch their own brand of VR Arcade for their theater auditoriums.

But beyond the metaphor, I think you need to understand that the VR Arcade approach (currently) in the DOE sector is a "jukebox" approach, as seen with Viveport Arcade - operator support, and distributor investment presenting players with a selection of titles to choose from. That a facility may specialize in one genre will be an interesting area of investigation.
