VR Specific AMD 9070 & 9070 XT reviews/benchmarks

I'm trying to plan my first PC build and VR performance is really important to me. I can't find any specific reviews for the new AMD cards. Are there any out there yet? The cards seem great otherwise given the state of the GPU market so I'm really hoping they will be okay for VR

I'm in the same boat as you. I want to build my first PC this year and I want it to be especially good for VR. I'm also interested in the AMD 9070 and 9070 XT. Reviews are finally dropping on YouTube. I'm still going through them all but haven't come across one yet that references VR, just a lot of benchmarks and data charts really. The overall feedback appears very positive though. I wonder how long it will take for Meta to approve them for use with the Quest 3. Since they're so new, who knows how long that will take. Maybe not long...

Considering the Quest Link software currently lists the Radeon 7900XTX from 2022 as unsupported, it can take a while for Meta to support new cards.

If the Link software complains about a 9000 series card, you might have more luck with SteamLink or Virtual Desktop.

The 9070XT does sound pretty cool (given how bad the Geforce 5000 series launch has gone).

I've heard of SteamLink. It'is good to know that's an option. I've been reading more reviews of the 9070XT and not as impressed with what I'm hearing like I thought I'd be. The thing I've been struggling with is building a PC that is excellent for VR and I was considering the AMD 7800x3d last year but thought I'd wait it out for the next gen. Still tortured over the best way to go. If you're relying on your PC to render the best VR experience, you obviously want something high end (i.e expensive) and I'd assume that to be a 4090 or 5090, but no one reviews the VR experience with different cards so who's to say a 4070 or 4080 wouldn't be just as good for VR? I'm looking to experience cool apps and games like Cyperpunk 2077 in VR 4K.

No, SteamLink for VR doesn't have servers, it's still your PC that's running everything. The benefit to SteamLink is that it uses Valve's software to stream to the Quest instead of Meta's, so it bypasses the hardware requirements check. Although those requirements might be there for a good reason (ie. acceptable performance).

Virtual Desktop is the same, it can stream to Quest without the Meta PC software, but it costs money.

Thanks. Yeah, I edited my message because I realized that after I wrote it. Recheck my last comment.

I've used both the 7900XTX and the 9070XT via quest link on my quest 3 and they both work well for VR. The 7900 out performs the 9070 but both perform quite well. I use the 7900 for MSFS VR because flight simulator is a beast to run at 8K on my Pimax. The 9070 I use to run my Quest3 for everything else VR. I paired the 9070 with my 7800X3D and the 7900 with my 9800X3D and both systems run VR without issue.

I have issues with it, what kind of settings do you use, I have the quest 2 but still it shouldn't make that much of difference other than quality

I have a 9070 XT I've played a lot of VR with it so far and ITS GREAT i haven't ran into a single crash at all and you could get over a 100 fps in any game max setting on native (FSR 1-3 is not great I don't use it). I have it paired with a 7800x3d and it does wonders I honestly think this is the best GPU AMD has made I upgraded form a 4070 super and it's double what that is for the same price(for me atlease I managed to get it at MSRP). PROBLEMS: the card itself is amazing BUT the support for it is so little, even meta quest doesn't even fully support it software-wise. When I play linked I run into pixelated rows going across my screen on SOME games its annoying but that's the only flaw I could find. So if you're gonna get one and wanna play mainly VR then I would wait for some software updates from Meta. But you never know this just could just be a problem on my end, but I can't find out because not enough people have this card yet for them to share experiences. but I would highly highly recommend it.
