VR made me acquire my very first HOTAS

I have always held an unnatural disdain for Flight Simulation games. In my 30-ish years of gaming, the only flight game I ever bothered to commit to was the original Star Fox for Nintendo. Ironically, the main allure was the 3D aspect and the first attempt at a "virtual reality" headpiece to play the game. Which ended up being the real equivalent of strapping monitors to your head.

Now, so many years later, I am the proud owner of the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4

I chose this HOTAS based on the price-to-usage ratio. I didn't wanna start spending a few hundred bucks on the higher end stuff because I knew deep down inside I really kinda hate flight simulator games. However, Eve:Valkyrie has held my interest a bit, and now that I have Elite Dangerous I figure a $60 HOTAS won't be too much of a waste.

Up until today I had been playing Eve: Valkyire with the XBox Controller, and only single player. After an hour or so with my HOTAS, I'm level 2 in Eve: Valkyrie and massively addicted!

Once I reach level 5 and play through the Carrier Assault update a few times, I plan to move on over to Elite Dangers. So for those of you who play Eve, hopefully I'll see you online soon; as either friend or foe.

I did quite well for my first day in multiplayer with my very first HOTAS, so this is an open invitation for anyone to come humble me - I'm a n00b afterall

I have the same hotas ! (and its my first as well, never played flight sims either) I actually found I cant use it for EVE though, it just is too sensitive. for E:D however, holy crap does it do wonders.

Yessir! I haven't figured out the friends list aspect but I noticed a Squad option so I'll give it a try. If not, I'll definitely be playing it tomorrow afternoon for quite some time.

@Zenbane we're walking the same path. I'm nearly 50 yrs and bought the same HOTAS, also my first one. Was thinking of HOTAS X, but the 4 has smaller deadzone and upgradable firmware.
Man I'm feeling like a child again with my Rift. Like a dream from the 1980's coming true.

I also got the E:D. I played a lot with the original Elite on a C64. How are you going to map the both rudders you have in HOTAS 4?

Once I've developed my VR legs I will share my playing time between iRacing and Elite:Dangerous.

I haven't mapped to ED yet, it is still sitting there in my Library untouched lol

Once I am ready to take a break from Eve I plan to go full force in to ED.

Also, in order to send an invite I had to start a Squad. But I am under the impression that a squad requires 5 people in order to work? I should go read a manual.
