Has there been a official statement from VALVE where they stand on the FB acquisition?

If they had a negative statement it would be all over my news feed.
People tend to believe what they want to be true.

Why VALVE would have a position ? And why should they make a statement ?

Simple, the reason for the question is that:

1. certain Seattle executives do not like FB
2. certain executives may want alliances with Steam developers who do not like FB
3. SteamVR will include code developed by individuals who do not like FB

Now you see?

Well, the SteamWorks VR API is supposedly a vendor agnostic hardware abstraction layer, letting Valve "usurp" a position in the whole service chain, without any fixed reliances whatsoever...

I would assume a neutral position; Not shut, Not a scalding plume of superheated H2O, Just their usual nominal operating pressure and non-committical diplomacy. :7 (EDIT: Bleh, I might as well say "tepid diplomacy", to pipe the pun into a secondary low pressure cylinder and get the last few Newellton-metres out of it...)

I think they are pissed/worried.
Not because of any eventual animosity against FB, but because Oculus have made it clear that one of things they want from FB is the infrastructure for their own appstore.

So it seems that Oculus and Valve will be direct competitors

I think they hope FB will be more social apps based, and steam can keep the gaming side of things, and i also think that given the choice i'd not use the FB app store over steam, if they are going to be competitors, it'll be in the same way they currently are... FB has games even now...

They should be worried, Oculus won't be targeting just the standard casual games that FB has today.
I think this is partly why Valve has been quiet on the VR front lately.
That and Oculus stealing a nice chunk of their VR-guys 🙂
