Hey Everyone, I'm trying to find a way to shoot real-world video that has VR features.

We've got a band that I'm trying to capture so that I can play a concert, have avatars as the crowd in our Amphitheater, and allow them to have some limited range of movement and see the performance from that range of positions.

Everything will be rendered in a virtual-world other than the band.

I could use some guidance as to where I can find information or help in creating the VR video of the band. All the other work is already complete.

Any help?

So you want to be able to record your band in a kind of 3d capturing kind of way... this is extremely hard and i don't believe it has been solved yet, even to allow slight movement. I think the only solutions at the moment is to record a fixed position point of view in stereoscopic that allows you to look around at the fixed point.

I know veiveiv are working on full 3d scanning of models that allows them to be inserted into a 3d world and let the users walk around the model and get closer. However this is a still image and takes a large amount of cameras and editing to achieve a still image. BTW veiveiv is NSFW if you intended to look it up.

I think currently your only option would be to record multiple fixed point views of your band and let the user choose which one thy watch from, no movement would be possible at the moment without actually innovating something yourself.

An alternative is to use mocap (motion capture) and use that data to animate 3D models of each of the band members. It's the easiest solution.
