Vive overtakes oculus according to article

Just Google what the title says Vive overtakes Oculus. You will read the most dumbass bologna you can set your eyes on. The reviewers said 66% of vr owners on the steam site are vive owners and about 33% are Rift owners including DK2. Well daaaa. Then they said well it's possible because maybe many Oculus owners are on the Oculus home. Gee ya think? Also how are you going to get an honest number from a competitor. It's in their best interest to try to make the public think that they are overtaking the rift. They are not even coming close.

The Vive is a great beginners introduction into VR, much like the Nintendo Wii was to young console gamers.  After you get more into it, you put down the baby toys and move onto Xbox1 and the PS4 with controls that allow for real, competitive movement.

I recently checked out Vive's game lineup(as of 07/01/2017), and found that when you remove the Oculus portion, their games are actually the same thing over and over...

1. pick up an item
2. throw or block
3. teleport to new location
4. repeat step 1

just apply these four elements in any scenario imaginable and you have the Vive...

1. zombies
2. space shooter
3. sports
4. misc.(The Lab)

...you see, it's Nintendo Wii!!

Competition is a good thing, both seem fantastic for generation 1 headsets. Currently I think there are more Vives about due to them having motion controls and managing to keep on top of preorders considerably better. Both of these are teething issues, I hope to see both brands competing for generations to come.

...or maybe you could consider that unlike Rift, you can actually buy Vive.

@tomba4  I think the backlog is done, mine arrived 1 and a half months ahead of estimate and I have seen people getting rifts within a week or two of ordering them now.

In other news, article says drinking a glass of wine is like going to the gym ....
Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

Be kind to one another 🙂

That was based on a voluntary poll on Steam.  So take those results with a grain of salt.  It will come down to the hardware sales, if we ever get those results.

I've been on Alt Space VR for a week now and almost everyone I've talked to there who owns a Vive either already owns a Rift or has one on the way.

The consensus seems to be the Vive is great for the room scale stuff, but the Rift is much more comfortable for longer-use cases.  To be fair, everyone says they don't regret their decision to get both.  But I seriously wonder how long they will use their Vives once Touch is released.

I also find it interesting that 90% of the Vive users in Alt Space VR appear to be clipped into the floor because of how hard it is to set up Lighthouse for a sitting experience.  Lighthouse always tries to simulate your actual height, calculating the distance between the floor the HMD, which on paper sounds cool, but difficult to pull off when you're sitting down since everyone has a different "Torso height" in addition to how high your chair is.  One guy who wasn't having that issue kept complaining about how he wishes he could sit down.   🙂

The Vive sounds like a complete pain in the bum to use and I'm pretty sure the only reason its better are the tracked controllers and possibly the FOV.   Lighthouse sounds high maintenance.

I believe this poll is more related to user who uses SteamVR, which most of us don't, that poll loses all credibility when comparing to DK2 numbers. I am sure there are still more DK2 out there then the amount of VIVE + CV1

It's also easier to purchase a bicycle than it is to buy a Lexus. fyi

Aside from that, it doesn't really matter what VR headset is selling more or less this month, quarter, or year. This is an industry that's here to stay, fluctuations will occur. Just as with Microsoft and Apple. Personally, I wouldn't mind owning a Vive since I paid over $2,000 for a VR ready machine. It seems practical to get the most out of it by owning more than one VR headset. But now I know 2 people who own a Vive and nothing really compels me to spend that extra cash on it. That VR Archery game was a little cute tho.

If Vive ever gets real exclusives then maybe I'll buy one. Until then, it does feel like a downgrade from the Rift.
