Vive this...Vive That....The painful wait for touch controllers....

Seems like every other day another fun game gets released for the vive because of it's controllers - are all the game producers holding back on releasing games until Oculus finally releases theirs?? Yes we have been seeing a few games here and there - just can't wait until we get some actual "Interactive" games to come our way. Yes i'm being pissy 🙂 I have got to the point of maybe playing my rift once a week because nothing really "Exciting" has come out that interests me.

I think waiting and releasing a polished product is better than than releasing an unfinished product early.
HTC basically released a prototype design because they couldn't finish the final design in time and now there are already rumors about a vive with a more polished design.
(probably not true though, because that would be a punch in the face for people who already bought the vive)

And if I compare the vive wand with the touch features I already know which product I will like more.

That prototype you call it, is doing very well, and basically everyone in the Vive community loves it. Even if they released a new version, I don't think it will be a punch in the face, just that we have an even BETTER Vive on the market, nothing wrong with that.

If CV2 was announced at OC3, I doubt all the Rift users would think it's a punch in the face, in fact they would be very excited that they have an even better VR HMD as well. (And if you have CV1 - would you be upset by this?)

VR needs to evolve as fast as possible, because it's really an infancy tech, and there are MANY MANY areas it can improve on.

Honestly, if Oculus is taking their sweet time to perfect the crap out of Touch with Rift, and making the tracking very robust, then good, the better the VR products the better VR selection we get; I hope that is the reason for waiting it out this long for Touch.

Yeah, especially now that they can use Revive to play all those Oculus titles 😉

Honestly, for me, I'm a bit concerned about the hand controllers - most of the games I play use dedicated controllers (EVE, iRacing, DCS World). Using the dedicated controllers means that the touch controllers by nature aren't going to be usable. What I'd LIKE to see is more support of the Leap Motion controller so you can reach out with your real hand, and flip switches and such (ala FlyInside). Other games such as Star Trek Bridge Crew will be great with Touch, but again, I would think that it wouldn't need anything more than the Leap Motion given that it it's really just tracking the hands.

I would HOPE most game makers would make it work with leap motion OR touch....

One could say that Oculus is doing too much refinement, being too concerned with imperfections. HTC decided to just throw it all out there and see what happens.

I think that's what Oculus is afraid of, the whole company relies on the succes of their product, which is not the case for HTC or Valve and gives them a bit more freedom.
But I agree that they sometimes take too much time.

No the vive is compared to the cv1 the better product. (I have both and using the vive only)

Why ? I haven't found a single thing on the vive headset that is better than the Rift (Headset only, not counting Motion controls.

It's a great product, just not very polished (or not as polished as the Rift headset is)
HTC even admitted that they didn't have the time to polish the headset more. (e.g. changing the design)
Just compare the changes between Rift DK2 and CV1 and Vive DK1 and CV1.

Even if they released a new version, I don't think it will be a punch in the face, just that we have an even BETTER Vive on the market, nothing wrong with that.

I would be really angry, if they released a new model at the end of the year, because that would mean I wasted 700 $.

When comparing just the headsets, who thinks the Vive is the more polished headset ?

The Rift has so many features the Vive hasn't:
- Integrated audio
- More comfortable
- Better design
- The Remote
- Less weight
- The Headstraps

The same goes for the motion controls:
- Sensors for gesture prediction
- Better haptic feedback
- Better hand emulation

The Vive is still a great product, lightfield is great for big spaces, chaperone helps orientation and the controllers are great for emulating "things" (like flashlights).

There are reasons for both headsets but I think the Rift is just the more polished and that many (not all) people just bought the vive, because it already has motion controls and not because it's better and that many reviews that currently recommend the vive will recommend the rift when touch releases.

I think the reasons Oculus didn't release the controllers, even though some developers already have a (more or less) finished product are:

1. They need to have 150.000+ controllers already produced to avoid another pre-order shitstorm
2. Developers need the time to finish their games before touch launches. (30 launch titles)

One of my points was the speed at which games are being produced for Vive compared to Rift - Yes I know most of them aren't the greatest games, but they are fun time consuming games....but it seems a lot of companies are holding back on producing games for the Rift until the controllers are released.

You can say all you want "Just wait until all the awesome titles that will launch with touch".....but I also heard that line about all the titles ready to launch with CV1. I am hoping most Vive games become usable with rift once touch is released....butnot holding my breath. Yes more titles are trickling in slowly that will maybe tide me over until touch - but I really think they need to bring back the demo section for developers - That above all else kept me from getting bored with my DK2, there was always something new to try regardless of if it was good or bad.

Nearly all games are compatible (including most room-scale games). Touch is natively supportd by steamvr.

I think the wait is also taking a while not because the controllers need to be improved, but just to increase the catalouge size. You need system sellers for something to be sucessful long term, otherwise users lose interest (look at the HTC vive).
The wait is so so painful, but it's not the only time I've waited and came out impressed and grateful (GTA V comes to mind) that I did and they took their time. It'd just be nicer if they had some gosh darn demos nearby for these things and I'd feel better about it.
Facebook bought Instagram. How exactly did they ruin them?
