Vive this...Vive That....The painful wait for touch controllers....

Seems like every other day another fun game gets released for the vive because of it's controllers - are all the game producers holding back on releasing games until Oculus finally releases theirs?? Yes we have been seeing a few games here and there - just can't wait until we get some actual "Interactive" games to come our way. Yes i'm being pissy 🙂 I have got to the point of maybe playing my rift once a week because nothing really "Exciting" has come out that interests me.

ppl should give a shit for vids man. i had both systems and i have allready tracking probs

I think most people would take a well constructed video over a terribly written forum post.

A terribly written forum post is still better than a guy who just quote comments to say something regadless what it is. U just defend ur oculus in every way like a fan boy. I have a oculus rift and im happy with it because i know that roomscale maybe need a second generation even i liked it with the vive a lot. But i would take vives Laserstation over 4 tracking camaras every time.....  And i also think that the front camara of the vive is a big think i used it alot.

A forum post is better than a person, even though a forum post can't exist without the person who wrote it? Or I guess in your case, the person who wrote the Bot who wrote the forum post lol

You tried to dismiss what someone else said about a video, but your dismissal was a terrible read.

Nearly all games are compatible (including most room-scale games). Touch is natively supportd by steamvr.

Hand controllers are slowly being added to A-Frame and WebVR (both Vive and Touch). So native support will be extending beyond Steam and Oculus Home. Pretty fun!

One could say that Oculus is doing too much refinement, being too concerned with imperfections. HTC decided to just throw it all out there and see what happens.

You could, but that would be silly. You do know Oculus is owned by Facebook, right? You don't actually think Facebook bought them for VR games, do you?

As far as I can see, Oculus' long-term market is not gamers, but social media. Facebook want me to use VR to interact with my grandmother on the other side of the Atlantic. My grandmother doesn't care about games, and is not going to be screwing lasers to the wall of her living room. Which is why Oculus spent so much time polishing the product, and why they use a simple-to-setup camera system rather than laser-spewing boxes screwed to the walls.

Anyone who thinks this is about games is rather missing the point. Games are just a way to fund the initial VR market, before it really takes off.

At least Zenbane knows you don't need 4 cameras for room scale, as it's been proven to work as well as the Vive with 2. Maybe your time would be better spent in Vive forums.

Yeah it was about 2 months ago when I posted the link on this forum where it was done with 2 trackers. I know that some recent articles by enthusiasts have been talking about fun they have with 4 cameras, but it is overkill and only done if you are looking to expand upon an already addicting experience.

I also posted this image a few weeks ago showing how Steam recognizes 2 cameras,

One of my points was the speed at which games are being produced for Vive compared to Rift - Yes I know most of them aren't the greatest games, but they are fun time consuming games....but it seems a lot of companies are holding back on producing games for the Rift until the controllers are released.

You can say all you want "Just wait until all the awesome titles that will launch with touch".....but I also heard that line about all the titles ready to launch with CV1. I am hoping most Vive games become usable with rift once touch is released....butnot holding my breath. Yes more titles are trickling in slowly that will maybe tide me over until touch - but I really think they need to bring back the demo section for developers - That above all else kept me from getting bored with my DK2, there was always something new to try regardless of if it was good or bad.

Gotta be honest, my time for games is fairly limited and I'm not really interested in experiences or tiny little games - I realise this isn't the case for everyone but a game has to be either fairly awesome or I've got have been wanting it for a while to get my to devote time... 15 years ago it would have been a different story but these days I'm just too darn busy.

not that this means I'm not buying them, because I am - if we, the early adopters, don't support the Dev's who are putting in their time and money to develop them then they will stop doing it and then all of VR misses out.

However, as I don't have a Vive I've not looked at buying any of the games that use motion controllers yet.. in fact to be honest I opened up Steam for the first time in 3 weeks this morning, and that was only because my son has been going on about Scrap Mechanic for a couple of days so I watched the videos with him before school.
Though you are more than slightly incoherent, I agree with you Madam,

Can anyone give reasonable realistic excuses as to why the controllers have never been released?

I think you have it at 25% right with the camera range and a need for higher resolution, but I think you are also over looking at the bandwidth it requires to send said information from a higher resolution camera back down to the computer and process it a time that really matters. That's the tricky part. Remember, resolution is great for distant tracking, but the speed of the frame determines how smooth it is for tracking, 1080 @ 60hz is quite a bit of data over a USB port. Whatever value they have for "smoothness tracking" at now - they would have to double their bandwidth requirements for any bumps in resolution.

They also need a high end CP chip on the cameras themselves and only send needed data down the cable. That would drop the requirements down pretty hard from a USB 3.0 speed down to USB 2.0 or higher resolution images (more distant this way) over the same 3.0 speeds. We wont see this until CV2 comes out - or if they just break things up into different sections like: Tracking, HMD, software, and Controllers/Touch.

- Proof comes down to the fact that they can always get a higher resolution camera - Actually, I am not sure if they are even using 4k cameras but a high speed 1080 one instead. 120Hz maybe? 4k cameras (that we see on phones) are quite cheep actually - but they lack in speed, so this tells me they are both bandwidth limited and Smoothness limited on the camera side of things, but once they get their CP chip for their cameras - 2 base cameras will pretty much rule the land and tracking will probably be the best tracking system all around.

Imagine just sticking on some flashing lights to your object in your room for tracking reasons and recreate your room in VR - then follow that up with layout changes. In a matter of speaking - you could create a living room on the cheap with some cardboard and some padding. Then again - if you brought anyone over - they might just think you are poor - or crazy 😜 On the plus side - at least no one will have a need to steal from you then 😛

Mark where your TV will be in the room with cardboard - and play netflix on it (100-300$ savings just because you can have any size of TV you want there). 200-300$ savings for lights, furniture, paint/color of the room, carpet, and other little dodads. Did two rooms at once - even though you pay maybe 3k$ for it all - you could have your self a VR bed room and living room saving you almost about the same amount of money 😛

Once they get wireless, higher resoultion HMD, and tracking down along with cost - then we might see a future of where your house is made out of cardboard and lights for like 10k$ (including the computer/vr) lol! You also wouldn't have to get ready for work either, you just VR your self there. So cost of living will drop pretty fast 😛

This is completely my THEORY ONLY.

I knew it was your theory from the start because it's obviously misinformed. The proof is in the pudding. Videos from the above youtuber have proven Touch works as well as the Vive with just 2 sensors to do full 360 roomscale time and time again.

Proof in the pudding is when Touch reaches the hands of real users without NDA's. No one reported Fresnel godrays until people started receiving their pre-orders - yet every Dev, every youtuber must of know bout it and said nothing. We already have proof Oculus is supporting 4 cameras so ask yourself why. Vive could support more lighthouses but they don't because they don't have to. Oculus wouldn't support 4 cameras if they didn't have to.

AntDX3162 asked for a reasonable realistic excuse why Touch has been delayed and in my theory this is the best answer. Refinements are a smoke screen imo.

We will see in 3 or 4 months time.

Actually a lot of people did note and commented on the god rays before release. Tested and a few youtubers also reported it as well before release. The ones that cared didn't listen - and the ones that knew - didn't find it too bad.
