Vorpx vs. Vireiro vs. TriDef Which one do you prefer?

I know this has probably been discussed before, but I feel like that
discussion was quite a while ago and since new games and sdks came out
in the meantime, I want you guys, who already got their CV1, share your
experiences with the different programs.

What are tho pro's and con's of each and which one would you recommend and why?

all I got vorpx to do it give me a zoomed up imax screen that I cant see the left or right to select any buttons like Alien isolation I dont understand how you guys dont get sick from it  , I tried 120fov and as much as I wanted it to work it just doesnt work well

I was going back and forth with the dev about how it should be a simple integrated solution. I got to a point giving up and got a refund. It must be me because all I hear is great things about the program.

Im no programmer but look at the Game Hints to setup, way to complicated

There are three things that you need to take care of once for each game:

  1. Enhancing the field of view (FOV), otherwise the image will
    appear zoomed in.
  2. Adjusting the head tracking sensitivy in the vorpX ingame
    menu.
  3. Choosing the optimal 3D mode according to your PCs
    performance.

1. Field Of View

You can get many games look almost perfect in this regard. And even for those
that do not offer FOV control, neither directly, nor through vorpX, there are
functions in vorpX to make them playable, although not in a perfect way.

From best to worst here is what you can do:

  1. Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of
    120°.
  2. Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings
    Optimizer
(vorpX config app) for games that support it.
  3. Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool
(avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
  4. Set the game resolution to a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio mode.
1280x960 for example. In many games this helps with FOV.
  5. Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu
    (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
  6. Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX
    ingame menu and/or ImageZoom.
  7. Play the game in Virtual Cinema Mode (can be enabled in the
    vorpX ingame menu).
  8. Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be
aware that this distorts the image).

2. Head Tracking

Since vorpX handles head tracking relative to your individual mouse
sensitivity that you might have set in a game, it might need some tweaking. If
you think the world spins either too fast or too slow when turning your head,
adjust the HT Sensitivity on the input page of the in-game
menu.

3. 3D-Mode

vorpX uses two very different approaches for creating Stereo 3D. All
supported games have Z-Buffer 3D, many of them Geometry
3D
. Geometry 3D offers the most lifelike 3D experience, while Z-Buffer
3D is about twice as fast (but has ‘less 3D’). Especially in resource hungry
games you should consider the Z-Buffer mode. A high framerate is very important
for a great VR experience, often more important than perfect Stereo 3D.

Hi Guys !

Please note that Vireio v4 is still Alpha and in a very early stage. The first game (FO4) runs fine on both my home systems (AMD r9 390, Nv gtx 970) on Oculus, OSVR.

Problem is that this is not the case for other PCs, we work on it.

Regards, Denis / Vireio Dev

Hi Denis! I went back and tried again when I got my CV1, hoping that my tracking issue was DK2-related, but I had the same problem. I'm on an SSD with a GTX 980 now, but I'll try again when I get my GTX 1080--maybe I can brute-force it with enough GPU muscle.

Anyway, you guys are doing great work--keep it up!

Hi !

Sounds like there are troubles with the 980 familiy. Read this thread :

I has some pretty bad lag when head turning in Crysis 2 and some weird screen flickering to L4D2.

I tried L4D2 with VorpX for a few minutes last night. Best VR zombie game I've played so far, though L4D1 would have been better (it only seems to run in 2D for me, and I can't turn on 3D reconstruction).

The only things I noticed were zombie shadows moving in front of the UI in the main menu, and plants floating in mid-air during the game. I presume the plants are just 2D sprites, so VorpX doesn't know where to place them in 3D.

Practise. And tweaking the settings until you find the ones that minimize nausea for you.

When I first tried Skyrim, I couldn't walk far without feeling uneasy. Now I can play for hours without any problems.

The R/C car level in Duke Nukem Forever was a killer, though. I made the mistake of spinning the camera around the car while making a jump, and... first time I've actually felt like being sick in VR.

Until you have played Portal and Portal2 all the way through in VR everything else is just foreplay

Fair warning to anyone reading this article before you run out and drop money on any of these, they are very much under development still imo. I bought vorpx, and the few games I've tried so far don't work very well at all. That's not to say that they _can't_ work, it just means out of the box there was something wrong with every game I tried.

There are a _ton_ of things you can configure in vorpx to get it to work with individual games, but the problem is that there's no solid "how to" for most of them.

I guess point being that vorpx is pretty cool, and it _can_ help you play older games in vr, but don't expect a simple plug and play solution.

For any well-supported VorpX game I try, it's usually a case of change resolution, change FoV if possible, tweak graphics settings for decent performance, change zoom to fit the entire screen in the headset, tweak the 3D separation, and go.

@edmg can you post the settings you changed for L4D2?  I am fully prepared to tweak and troubleshoot, I just don't really know where to begin.  If I had a basis that works for someone else I could see what specific setting you change in game.  I am very motivated to get Vorpx to work due to all the amazing reviews!

Sure, I should be able to post my L4D2 settings tonight.
