Vr can't scratch certain itches yet.

I love vr. I do it much more than doing 2d gaming. That said I still enjoy call of duty online. Nothing on vr can match that experience yet. Sometimes I have the desire to play games types that you don't get in vr. At times I just like to play a game with my dog at my side and enjoy a nice cold beer while I'm playing. Ever since I got my Rift I would say Im in vr 70-80 % of the time but traditional gaming has its place.

Considering that in the past you have criticized VR as being limited, and openly stated that AR will be better than VR, I'm pretty sure you don't "love vr"

Also, can you please list your full VR Library. It would be helpful to see exactly which VR games and apps you have acquired as you attempt to scratch your itches.

To zenbane Right now ar is extremely limited which I have mentioned. The field of view is also very small in ar now. I'm talking about in the very distant future. Ar will be able to surround you completely with games or whatever without u having to completely leave the real world. That will in my opinion become more popular for that reason. I have never criticized vr. It's limitations are fact but doesn't degrade my love for it. As for fov and quality visuals etc. Vr has a long way to go like the 1st gaming systems. I still love using vr and will enjoy the improvements of each generation. I owned the 1st gears vr inovator addition that overheated etc. But still loved it. Again as fantastic as vr is it is still limited and ar isn't even in the game yet. Some games I love are chronos, edge of nowhere, damaged core I enjoyed apollo 11. Valkerie (enjoyed getting that free in my preorder, lucky tales, project cars, adrift, jaunt, vidreo, short experience apps and many other games and experiences. Again I do vr more than 2d but 2d has its place. I don't get you zenbane you are very knowledgeable and understand alot of things. Why you have to be so obnoxious. You are a very imature know it all type of person

Hey Innovator (yes correct spelling haw haw). I recently played the entire Deus Ex Mankind divided in VR using the game's built in 3D and Bigscreen Virtual Desktop - probably 20 hours plus. With the cinema screen close enough and the right size it's a very comparable alternative to full VR. Perhaps you could do the same with the Call of Duty games as these are usually 3D supported.

The thing is, unlike playing these games on a 3D TV, the fact in VR you're completely isolated from the outside and have the 3D effect as well  with head-tracking makes 2D games way more immersive. Andddd, as you can imagine, the budget for Deus Ex Mankind Divided is a lot bigger than most VR games and simply looked great. It had to be played in 2K at ultra settings though otherwise it looked a bit pants, so you need a beefy GPU to handle it.

Give it a go man. You might need VorpX or Tridef. Actually I've spent 20 hours recently replaying Fallout 4 in VorpX cinema mode (not their fake VR mode) in the same way and was totally immersed in the game world there.

Good times.

@Shadowmask72 I think you just answered a question I posed a while back and didn't get a response to.  How does one play 3D supported games with the Rift?  Such as Batman and Call of Duty.  You seem to use Virtual Desktop in Cinema mode.  Is this easy to set up?  I have many options, Virtual Desktop, BigScreen, and VorpX.  Some quick steps are much appreciated.

To @inovator I agree with @Shadowmask72 in that I use VorpX to inject VR into my big games.  I agree that there are not the big AAA titles that we want yet, but it has breathed life into my old library of (too many) Steam games that I got on sale for a few bucks.  I won't lie, it takes some tweaking with VorpX, but maybe Shadow's idea of cinema mode would be easier to set up.

Take your pick. I've found Tridef and VorpX cinema modes to be impressive depending on the game. Tridef has a lot of supported titles but you might need to fiddle with the custom focus setting to get some truly immersive depth. I've tried this on a number of games and it's incredible sometimes how deep the 3D effect can be - recently tried it with Dead Rising on PC.

Tridef has a free 14 day trial mode as well if you don't want to pay but I believe in the long run it's well worth it, as I said their games list is quite large. A caveat I will mention is older less demanding games are better. I tried The Witcher 3 for example and this was a bit a of pain to get a smooth framerate, even when dialing back the options. Like I said, it needs to be minimun 1440p for it to look decent enough, anything less and it's too low quality. Then you have to remember the GPU renders it twice for 3D so that's a lot of overhead. Mass Effect 3 has been a great experience as well even though I've had to use Xpadder for the Xbox One controller to work.

So, using Virtual Desktop of Bigscreen Beta you can get some good games going. Sometimes the injector crashes either of those so make sure the game options are windowed borderless or windowed. Fullscreen seems problematic more often than not. You can load the game up in 3D first and then launch the VD or BS app or the other way round - see what works. VorpX cinema also is good if the game is supported. Just switch to cinema mode and use the void environment so there's nothing else to render and no distractions - oh and you really need to disable the Xbox Controller over-ride as it's a pain otherwise (depending on how you play).

It's a shame VD or Bigscreen can't reproduce a 4K signal effectively as this is really the optimal viewing experience at the moment. When you try this in 3D it simply causes too much lag.

Thanks Shadow.  I will give this a try this weekend.  Would love to play through DX:HR, Fallout New Vegas, and Dishonored using the big cinema mode technique.  These work in VorpX but I just haven't nailed down all the settings yet, so a cinema mode may be easier.  I will also try out Batman and Crysis in 3D.  Also I am playing through the Mass Effect series for the first time and about to finish the first one.  I would totally play 2 and 3 in VR!

It can be seen as equally obnoxious that someone who doesn't have a lot of experience in VR keeps trying to criticize VR as a whole. VR is more than just video games, and it extends beyond the Oculus Rift. I've said this before, and it seems to fall on def ears. Which again, is equally obnoxious.

If you don't like the VR gaming selections between Oculus Home and Steam, then that's certainly something to discuss. But you make posts about the entire VR industry, and often try to portray it as limiting while arguing in favor of things like Pokemon GO as evidence of AR's superiority over VR. These arguments are a bit absurd.

You are welcome to your opinion, but if you are gonna share criticisms on a public forum then you should be prepared for some challenges.

I don't agree that "nothing can match Call of Duty in 2D." In fact, I think Elite Dangerous and Eve-Valkyrie not only match it, but make standard flat FPS gaming feel rather antiquated.

To zenbane 1st off you didn't read my posts completely otherwise you wouldn't say that I have limited VR experience. It's a lie when you say I criticize the vr as a whole. When an industry is in its infancy it has its weaknesses. I never said that vr is all about video games. I mentioned things that I do beyond video games. You're implying if I don't like video game selections between Oculus and steam etc. Which is another lie. I never argued about Pokemon go. I don't even like it. I don't even really consider AR. To imply on this post that I like Pokemon go you are a liar and to say that I am comparing that to VR makes you a bigger liar with no credibility. To compare Elite dangerous in a valkyrie yo Call of Duty well I'll let the others judge you as far as your being of sound mind.
