Want To See About Where This Silliness Began?

I know many have already seen this, but it's cool nonetheless. The link was posted on Reddit...

Take a short trip back in time... (And see Cyber's old avatar...)

Edit - And unless I missed an earlier appearance, John Carmack shows up on page 3, Brantlew from the beginning, etc. cool history and a lot of insight into the beginnings of OVR.
But... but... but... I just NEED to know about the Baba! The Baba has me hypmotized!

For anyone who's interested, here is Palmer's very first thread on MTBS3D.
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123&start=0

And here's his first public project thread on MTBS3D, where he's showing off a helmet that he was romancing for a spell.

Those threads are great! I looked them here and there and it just feels crazy reading it now. Wish I had found it earlier, but thanks for showing me, guys.

There are remarkable comments, like martinlandaus: http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123&start=0#p29656
You go Palmer! Build the future!

You get something together similar to that leep vr and do a full FOV HMD and I think you can make yourself a lot of money with people here willing to buy.

Reminds me of how Minecraft started. It was nearly the same with people saying: hey, this can get big, you can make some money with it!

What a joy to read! 😄 Love it, great find, and thanks for sharing.

Interestingly Palmer started with both integrated audio and force feedback. Hopeful these find their way back in someday, and given this news, it looks like at least audio may.

The DAC for the sound system is all done, and I have it triggering the quad rumble motors during low frequency sounds (Two smaller ones for light "booms", and two larger ones for big "BOOMS"). I finally found a good source of info for the design of the sound module adjustment and locking system, turns out the US Military had to figure that out for helicopter pilot helmets in Vietnam. So I have sound from USB, the headphone drivers are working, and the only sound related work is actually building the arms for the mount and adjustment. Oh, and I need to Dynamat the inside of the helmet (Dynamat is a sound dampening material used in high end speaker installs).

Force feedback has adjustable force and trigger voltage, it can be anything from just adding a little more bass to shaking your head to a concussion. Heh, not quite, but you get the idea. I have another idea for force feedback, it is a bit more fun. I will reveal more when I know if I can actually make it work or not. 😉

My favorite line...

If I can get this working, I will definitely be posting a guide. I will probably sell this, too, as I can already see how I would make an improved version 2.

And looking forward to your work Cybereality!

OMG thank you for bringing this to our attention! This was so cool to read through. I didn't find the mtbs3d forum until a couple years ago and never knew that even existed. Pretty crazy to see that Cyber was the first to respond to Palmer's post.

I was martinlandau over there. My quantum analysis neuro ai hedge fund skills are pretty good at predicting the future eh? :). Dan loeb at third point used to think so. Funny you mention notch who seemed to have a problem w the Facebook buyout! Lol! Yah make "some money" _ that would have been cool. Not sell out the open source HMD project to enrich suckerberg. Padawan Palmer will pay a price for that maybe someday w his new sith overlords and when his annakin moment comes we must rally to his sword as he raises it against the emporers.

Why am I afraid like gandalf says?

Martinlandau was from a movie my ai professor told me about. Access code with martin landau. How that was the future. Deputy director of DARPA Dr. Gabriel later informed me they were using my ai profs research in their new drone spying tech. Watch the movie. 😉

mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123 I am looking into that LEEP VR I lack practical 3d knowledge, I have found some good links, but I am not sure if they are the ones you were talking about. Would you mind direct linking me to them?

Now read this thread http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=15565

And see what happened with the PRE-kickstarter backers who pitched in extra cash to try and help palmer get the KS ball rolling when the RIft was at pretty much at google cardboard stage.
