A heads-up for us Norwegians. Got my Oculus CV1 delivered by UPS on 29apr2016. Happy. Today, somewhat sour. Got a nice envelope from UPS asking for full blown VAT/MVA on the whole €699 sum.
For reference. It was 100% clarified from Oculus that the €699 sum in Norway, included VAT. Here is the comment:
Quote (cyberreality): "Yes, I can confirm that the €699.00 price INCLUDES VAT in Norway."
Might have been a one-off fluke (somewhat sceptic). Might be change in shipping going forward have sorted it. Hope so for others receiving it now.
I know they are not doing this on purpose. But Oculus is not making themselves any favors by tripping up like this. They have shipped before, they should have this sorted by now. Or else they should pony up and outsource shipping to 3rd-party with experience.
As most know, UPS and other delivery companies are not so understanding of such things. Already payed the bill, not going to argue with them. After this post, opening a ticket with with Oculus and asking them how to sort this out.
PS1: Fun fact. If Oculus really set aside VAT inside the €699. They now managed to get VAT on VAT... (slow clap).
PS2: Going to keep this thread updated with progress.
Quick update: Created ticket with Oculus on Friday. Got a quick reply, within 2h, asking for copy of invoice from UPS and a promise to look into it. Supplied that. With weekend and all, I guess they'll need a few working days before they can give any more feedback.
Yes, unless something has changed, VAT was supposed to be included. It may be that UPS was confused, or the invoice was written improperly. Can you please contact Oculus Support and explain what happened? Sorry about that.
Could it be that although VAT is included, import duty is not? I'm pretty sure that in most EU countries you have to pay an import duty (separate from VAT) when importing from outside the EU.
I don't believe so because the packages were already imported by Oculus (they ship from a warehouse within the EU). I don't have the specifics, so please speak with Support. Thanks.
@LV426: Yupp. Kommer til å holde tråden oppdatert (NO->EN: I'll keep the thread updated 🙂 )
@cyberreality: Already have a ticket going. Not a big problem, just some unnecessary hassle we both could be without. I guess it'll be sorted. And I hope it is a one-off, or already solved for future shipments to Norway. In your defence, the EU/Norway/VAT logic is complicated 😉
@TommyEn: Hopefully it was a fluke. And you will not get it. Just wanted to give a heads-up for fellow Norwegians, if it should happen. So we get it sorted as fast as possible.
(Non)Update: Not gotten any new replies on the ticket. Did a friendly 'poke' reply on Friday. See if this week brings any movement. As promised, will keep thread updated if stuff™ happens (or not).
