Well just learned about facebook and oculus

If my facebook account is shut down for any reason, I wouldn't be able to use the Oculus Quest 2? That doesn't make any sense! I don't see why it would ever happen to me but if for some reason it does, I can still use it as a PCVR with steam, right?

But you will still have to sign on to FBs draconian, privacy invasions.  If you're ok with that, you go girl.  I'm not.

Well why post here then ?

The issues don't go away just because certain people decide to post or not post.  Are you one of them elitist, intolerant types who thinks only they have something relevant to add to the discussion?   (And remember, I'm just asking the question - not suggesting.)

What he's asking, is why someone would sign on to Oculusvr.com if that person is against Facebook and their practices; since this site and forum belong to Facebook. In order to post here, you had to agree to the forum rules and Oculus ToS, which means you agree to have everything shared with Facebook. Insulting the poster for asking a legit question doesn't resolve the contradiction.

Nothing insulting about my post but dang, it sure got under your skin.  Stop being such a sensitive weenie.

Yes, it was all over Reddit yesterday. I'm not buying a Quest 2 unless this is confirmed, but it's a sensible solution which solves all the problems people have with Facebook replacing Oculus accounts.

Please cool it with the insults, both those directed at other posters, and those aimed at the “arbitrary idiots” working at Facebook.

If someone is offended by being called a "sensitive weenie" maybe they should look within.  But hey whatever.

Due to everything going on with the EU, Facebook has a new division called, Facebook Ireland Limited. It's a different entity than Facebook Inc. And it's purpose is to manage Facebook policies for their technology as it operates in the EU.

They are sending out updates due to the new responsibilities of Facebook Ireland Limited.

On top of that, Facebook is updating their ToS in 2 areas:
  • Oculus ToS, for those who choose to remain with an Oculus-only account during the grace period (which ends in 2023).
  • Facebook ToS, for those who migrate their Oculus account over to Facebook.

If you "link" your accounts, then yes, technically you have 2 accounts. That's how I operate right now. I can log in to this forum using my original Oculus credentials for "Zenbane" or I can simply log in to Facebook and then auto-log in to this forum. However, this dual account option will end after 2023 when the Oculus accounts are removed entirely.
