What I would love to see in Technolust

Hey Forum,

Here lately I have been focusing 110% of my creative energy towards conceptualizing and brainstorming interesting ideas for technolust. Honestly I would absolutely love the opportunity to contribute and work on technolust or any ambitious VR project for that matter, but for now I am just doing this for practice & fun!

Perhaps one of these days someone will realize how valuable my imagination truly is, but I digress....

Here is a list of ideas:
-Shadow Box: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7909
-Comic Book Stands(or store): viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7917
-Cypher: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7882
-Moon Launched: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7879
-Usenet/Lust/Initial thoughts & ideas: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7831

feel free to check them out if you are interested....

However the main reason I created this thread was not to brag about my imagination nor share my ideas, but rather get you guys to think about and share your own ideas for technolust. If you have an idea for technolust, don't hesitate to post it here. I would absolutely love to hear it.

Thanks

I really like anticleric's idea about zombies on Mars. Zombies are the new vampires right now, add in some Barsoom (Mars) and awesome sauce.

I would add in some more homages. Maybe the Black Sun club off in the distance somewhere in hackspace.

A Katana used as an item in one of the puzzles or challenges.

A hack space event that alters your perceptions so when you return things are different but only slightly and that difference is the key to solving the challenge in real space.

A launch facility that is launching the expedition to mars. You only see it in the distance but you see news events about the crew. And later when you have the hack space mars event. The crew is there. Some dead, some changed, and maybe one alive begging for help and completely mad.

The one thing I hope to see though is some NPC interaction. Doesn't have to be a lot of that. The curfew is a perfect excuse for curtailing it but I think some awesome NPCs can make this thing take off. Have a street noodle vendor ala so many dystopian scifis that has seen something important.

Just a few thoughts.

conceptualizing arcade like VR games that have no back story and nothing to do with the technolust world or overall narrative, just interesting distractions....

Initial Idea: Daft Punk Punch

how to jack in to Daft Punk Punch;
-load up technolust
-make your way to the arcade
-look around the arcade for the Daft Punk Punch interface asset (probably a mini daft punk DJ set?)
-watch a nifty jack in animation
-choose which daft punk guy you want to control
-duke it out in first person inside a futuristic boxing ring with some daft punk music playing in the background

interesting ideas to experiment with;
-since daft punk guys like to wear sweet looking helmets use helmet shattering and cracking to represent HP?
-or just have a virtual HUD represent HP?
-left click for left arm punches, right click for right arm punches
-hold both left and right click to block
-motion controls you bob and weave to dodge punches
-where you look is where you punch
-when you take damage or deal damage a gauge fills up
-one punk member will have slow mo power, the other will have flaming fist?
-use a key on the keyboard to initiate power?

agreed. VR will make NPC interaction incredibly more compelling. I would like to experiment with voice recog down the road but for now context sensitive AI would be a great start. in that NPCs will talk directly to you if you look at them. and you use natural head gestures to drive the conversation (nods and shakes) or just look away and the AI will instantly initiate a new voice file that's all like "hey you paying attention, ooh nevermind then."

interesting i will keep this in mind 🙂

noted 🙂 would be interesting just collecting materials to print a katana even if its not incorporated into some kind of puzzle or challenge.

im not familiar with this, but i am interested in designing club venues for technolust. the club venues would have a lot of interactive elements and a lot of animating NPCS but not many virtual world terminals to jack in too, well except for perhaps lust in the vip section. which is an idea i have for an erotica type virtual world 😛

hahaha yea tru that.

but personally i am more interested in building the actual technolust world itself at this point. i want the technolust world to be a huge open world at least the same size as GTA liberty city (perhaps even bigger). i would much rather use worlds within worlds (hackspace worlds) to drive these kinds of off world experiences from the onset. that way the developers could focus 110% on building the actual technolust city itself and filling it with interesting NPC characters and activities first and foremost. and when it reaches a point where the technolust world is huge... and i mean really huge... then i wouldn't have any issues at all with adding in a extracurricular space exploration experience on the technolust level itself.

thanks for the feedback much appreciated

also what are your thoughts about multiplayer for technolust?

I'm not very big on the idea of HUD's for a first-person-perspective VR game. For HP and other data I would like to see those displayed on a real object, such as a wristband with an LED or LCD readout ala Fallout. Or, you could get even more dystopian with it and install Government controlled kiosks around the city that scan your vitals and tell you how bad off you are. The kiosks could also dispense medicine - or at least that's what they call it - sort of similar to the vending machines in Bioshock.

I'd also like to see more micro/ambient events, similar to the video intercoms that you already have in the apartment complex hallway. You could even take that idea a bit further and have someone bang up against a door and have the door shake when you signal the intercom. I think little things like this really help increase the credibility of the world on a subconscious level. 😄

noted, good point, i like this idea. honestly i haven't even thought about HP on the technolust level yet. i was thinking of hp in the context of a virtual arcade game idea Daft Punk Punch. in that context i think a glass shattering effect of the helmet to represent hp will suffice, but hey you never know.... one hit your helmet cover gets cracked, second hit it cracks some more, third hit it completely shatters, next hit is instant KO.

tru that i absolutely agree

especially when combined with stellar NPC interaction and animation sequences that dynamically change. but that would require straight up motion capture or a team of really bad-ass animators. 🙂

FYI: it was not i who created the technolust demo it was Anticleric.

I like that you are talking about speech recognition! Just being able to say yes/no and simple things like that to npc:s would be great. I think it's a shame that not more developers have the courage to implement it in the core gameplay. It's an awesome feeling to talk to your computer and actually get a relevant response. I use VoxATC with FSX to talk with air traffic controllers, and it's awesome. Check out this thread, and scroll down a bit to the SWAT4 videos: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1622 Imagine that in vr!

i suppose i should share my thoughts regarding the rendering of a players "avatar body". or more importantly an avatar body complete with virtual hands. I know a lot of users have been requesting this in the other technolust threads.

this is not just for technolust but all VR games in general...

it should always be designed around the input device the player is using, not designed around some magical sense of "presence"

for instance if a player is seated and using a mouse and keyboard for input or a gameplad for input they can just imagine they are controlling an eye bot. it is just so much easier for locomotion and so much easier for a wider range of animations and interactive elements. sure it breaks presence, but who cares?

now if player has a hydra or a nunchuck like device in each hand with accurate motion detection... thats a whole other story. i would imagine it to be incredibly more easier and require less work on the developer side to render an in game avatar body based on motion detection from the input device the player is using rather then some forced animation with no frame of reference.

Edit: on second thought perhaps it would be a good idea to always render a virtual body by default. even in the absences of motion controls. especially if said body could be used as a means to pull up a game menu....

PLEASE give me the OPTION to not-walk-where-i-am-looking. It makes me really sick.

If you'll do that, I will nominate you for the VR-nobelprice! 😉
