What are you doing to enhance your VR experience?

Ever since owning the DK1 I've noticed people would first say something along the lines of "It feels like I'm really there" and wave their hands in front of their face to see if they could see it in VR.

Since then I been looking for ways to enhance VR for myself and others. Even as a kid I always thought it would be cool to feel some sort of physical feedback while watching a movie or playing a game. I came across the SubPac just last week and after watching dozens of reviews and reactions I ordered it because it seemed close to what I've always been looking for. That should be arriving today and I can't wait!

Other ways I tried to enhance my VR experience was buy backing ControlVR through Kickstarter. It was supposed to be a device that allowed you to use your hands in VR to interact with objects. It seemed ideal at the time but I'm sure I'm not the only one in this community that still feels the pain of never receiving anything for backing that project.

Finally, the Virtuix Omni is another Kickstarter that I have desperately been waiting for. With it you can walk, run, and jump in VR games/experiences where it makes the most sense. Maybe this year I'll receive it, maybe... It would be nice to receive the Omni and Oculus Touch around the same time.

So what hardware or software are you using or plan to purchase to add to your VR experience?

As a noob to posting in forums, I can see the mistake in posting this as a question instead of a discussion. I would change it if I could  😕

@Warbloke I think I came across those gloves too. I think they're more of a prototype for now but it'll be interesting to see how it develops. If it has enough resistance working out in VR may not be too far off.

Oculus Touch of course, other than that there isn't much I think would add much to my experience yet.

I have seen gloves which can limit movement of your hand so that you think you are holding something being designed, and things that map your handy paws into the VR space which looks fun and some folk here will have played with that - but I already forgot what its called.

I wonder if the gloves could be attached to a base which has some sort of cord attached to it, and this cord extends and retracts out of the base, and the tension could be adjusted programmatically.

I wonder if that would trick us into lifting an object, and the heavier the object appears, the cord becomes harder to extend and faster to retract giving the feeling of lifting something which has weight.

I like to sim race in rainy weather alot so I have hooked up an extension from my bathroom and I have a shower head with a very fine mist which I spray from above - the immersion is fantastic.  Other than that I literally piss & shite my pants in horror games which is also a very real sense of "being there".

Blanes you are priceless....

I'm just about to fit home made buttkicker to my playseat challenge.

When I told the misses I was going to make a buttkicker she said " you married one" my god she's right

@kcampbell You can click the little cog top right of the black bar above your post and edit it... so it can be changed.

Might be worth not changing it too much though or replays might seem a bit weird.

On a side note, I wonder if I could create a poll asking the question 'Are you awesome at gaming?' then much later change it so that it reads ' rubbish at gaming'. Hehe, wonder if that would work.

@TC1999 Careful with that one, you don't want to create a rift between you.

I use HOTAS with Elite Dangerous. I mean, it kind of goes without saying, you really want them for it, but in VR...it's EXTREMELY immersive 🙂

I got ED as a Steam gift prior to getting my rift.  I tried it... ok so there I was in space... in my space ship... flying around, then I flew around some more, then I flew around a litte bit more before finally just flying around a little bit more.  I then got bored of flying around and thought this games rubbish - nothing actually happens and theres nothing to do except fly around.

Knowing that  my rift was coming, I knew that would have an xbox controller, and thought that might be better to use to fly around in ED so I waited until then.

Eventually I tried it... (having read it worked in VR) - much to my surprise it did in fact work, and the xbox controller was better than the mouse and keyboard.

The cockpit of my spaceship did look good, and space did look much better inside the rift... so there I was in space... in my space ship... flying around, then I flew around some more, then I flew around a litte bit more before finally just flying around a little bit more.

Deep down I know Ive missed something - as people seem to go nuts about ED about how amazing it is... but then... same with Minecraft and I just don't get that either 😕

You are flying around and flying around a bit more and flying around a bit more of course that's not exciting. You need to do some reading and Youtube video watching. It has a steep learning curve but there's ZERO point in just flying in random directions.

Hotas sticks for Elite Dangerous and War Thunder.
G27 steering wheel/pedals and gear shifter for Driving sims.
Homemade analogue handbrake for Dirt Rally.
Multiple tactile transducers running at different audio frequencies for ED and WT. Run from SimVibe for the racing sims.
A cat that jumps on my lap at the worst time in horror sims.

Impatiently waiting for Touch.
