What is the difference between AR, VR and MR?

Please explain clearly and in short about the differences and boundaries between AR, VR & MR.

I try and encompass this all under XR (Cross Reality):

VR = placing the user in a completely synthetic environment (Beat Saber, etc.,)
AR = visually overlaying synthetic information onto the real world (Pokemon Go, etc.,)
MR = superimposing multiple synthetic information sources into real environments (Projection Mapping, etc.,)

The nice thing about many of the new MR developments are they are unencumbered, not requiring a headset. And the reason they are all under the XR umbrella, is that there are new immersion tech on the horizon that combines these first three (and the new IMR (Immersive Reality) systems) towards creating compelling experiences [Image].
