Hello everyone, i've just ordered the Dk2 last week.
I have an Asus rog750 i7 4700 12GB ram GTX 870m windows 8.1
Now i understand theres some issue with optimus laptop and DK2. I've read there are problems with DK2 only utilizing the integrated graphic card and not being able to push 75hz or get low persistence with DK2.
I've also heard that some optimus laptop are not able to run most of the demos at all. Or if they run at all, they're so lag inducing that it'll make people puke their livers out.
Are these issues still there? I'm just an enthusiast that wants to run some demos to impress the kids. If i am able to properly run say 60% of the demos out there(without making us sick) then i'm fairly content.
I am running an alienware 17 laptop with an 880m video card and 16gb of ram. I pretty much run most things i have tried in direct mode, while some others in extended mode with older sdk settings. This is with setting up optimus to run of the 880m instaed of integrated gfx, and i dont have any problems with the integrated gfx taking over, or being limited to 60hz for my primary screen.
The connection is straight into my HDMI slot. I am not sure if i can get some more performance by turning off optimus mode or not as i havent tried that much.
The only problem that i believe i am having is that after turning off the dk2, i have to unplug the hdmi slot for it to register in the runtime binaries again.
I run an Asus G750JS-DS71; Optimus Tech., Windows 8.1 and the whole shebang, and I haven't had any issue with getting the DK2 to work with pretty much every demo I've tried.
THAT BEING SAID!!! It wasn't just a quick plug and play to get it working, please remember that being a DEVELOPER'S KIT, that means that you should have NO EXPECTATIONS of it working right out of the box WITHOUT ADJUSTMENT/TWEAKING on your end. All in all, between reading posts about how others were able to get it to work on their systems, and playing around a bit on my own, it took about 45 minutes to an hour before I had it working proper with the first demo I tried (Helix in my case). Also note here, that each demo and game are different, and you will likely need to adjust settings each time depending on what demo you are trying to run. That being said (repetition, it's a good thing) if you do get/have a kit, I'd highly recommend using VR Game Manager by Bilago. Once you figure out the necessary settings for a demo, you can configure that launcher to automatically do it each time and save yourself ALOT of time, reducing most (if not all) demos to being little more than a click in most cases.
I have a 460M which is supposedly optimus, I can't say as I had a problem. I do get judder in some demos, but they are also running sub 75FPS. Above that number it is smoother than a silk scarf strapped to a chinchilla's chin.
