When are we likely to hear about CV2?

When are we likely to hear anything about CV2? I ask this because I heard quite a lot about Oculus Santa Cruz leading up to it's release this year, but I haven't heard anything about CV2. This leads me to wonder if those who feel it may be released next year might be wrong. Wouldn't we have heard something by now if it was going to be released by next year like we were hearing about Santa Cruz for quite some time? I'm just curious that's all, I don't want to start a debate about CV2 been released, it's just I'm thinking it could be 2020 before we see CV2..

My guess is late 2019 or 2020.

I want true 2nd gen VR; new features etc... If they can nail down Body Tracking, and some sort of Foveated Rendering (static foveated like Oculus GO has or TRUE foveated rendering) that would be out of this world awesome!!   And of course higher resolution screens.

If that means it takes longer for them to develop the CV2, then I'm all for it.

Hopefully CV2 will be announced right when the wound on my wallet heals (which is not any time soon!), but not any sooner.

i would like to see details start to emerge in connect this year, just little teasers, with launch some time (well into) next year... hopefully this time without the supply issues at launch
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

Hopefully only when there is significant improvements to make it worthwhile.

Eye tracking for DOF rendering (the name eludes me atm) or other tech improvements would be needed for me to purchase rather than a PPI and FOV bump.

IMHO CV2 should be next gen, anything less should be CV1.X.

In seriousness, I don't think it is prime time for CV2 yet, at least not for the next 2 years.

1. Except a handful games, the lineup of software and the expected releases in the near future are far from impressive. People who didn't fall for CV1 because of the lack of software will not fall for CV2, for exactly the same reason. People like me, who have owned a headset for sometime and have played most of the major VR releases (and who actually care about their hard-earned cash!), will lack the incentive to upgrade, because we don't want to buy a new headset just to replay the old games.

2. The processing power of a consumer grade gaming PC (1070 + a recent i5 would be my definition of a consumer grade gaming PC. Forget about 1080TI.) is not ready to push too many more pixels yet, plus the prices of RAM and GPU are at their high points. If CV2 gets released, it should push both FOV (130-140 degrees?) and ppi (at least double of CV1 to reduce the SDE) to a new high, apart from other improvements. Hopefully in two more generation's time (3-4 years?), mid-range GPU will have the kind of power to push this many pixels at 90 FPS. Hopefully the coin-mining rush will have ended by then.

Meanwhile, I hope Oculus and all other VR companies will do the following.

1. Push for more and better software. Ultimately that's what's selling the headsets. Oculus is said to be funding AAA games, which is exciting news indeed!

2. Lower the prices of the 1st generation headsets to draw in potential customers who have been blocked purely by the entry price. A larger user base in turn gives the developers more incentive to develop for VR.

3. Demonstrate exciting new VR technologies, to generate buzz and keep people excited.

The success of VR requires the combined effort of all big VR players. Any single company won't be enough to do it.

I agree with the comments and that's why I can't see CV2 been released next year. I might get a surprise but I think with Santa Cruz arriving some time later this year, I just can't see CV2 happening until 2020 myself. I think there is going to be so much going into CV2 that the tech won't be ready by 2019..

If we don't have a teaser at F8 in a couple of months we'll have a full announcement at Oculus Connect 5 and a release in the first half of next year, probably late March or early April.

Why next year instead of 2020? Because Respawn's new game is releasing next year and will be a launch title and will also be available for free for CV2 owners.
