Who else is now worried?

having just watched Step into the Rift press release, I'm now worried..

No mention of actual specs.. just a look at the ergonomics... An xbox controller which I already own will be bundled at my cost...

And a half finished input device...

Where is the meat on them there bones??

What about FOV? What about importing existing games into Oculus Home? What about pre order date??

This event looks very much like they have stuck some material around crescent bay and covered the camera up in plastic and plastered it on a stand....

Very very disappointed Oculus.... This may have been a deal breaker for me....

Im just saying that physical comfort will win versus cool experiences. Or else kinect and ps move would be a hit, and they are not

But again, you're comparing crappy motion control gimmicks on a tv with completely natural and intuitive VR input. These inputs will essentially give you 1:1 hands in the game world and from everything I hear, that's a game changing feature that will make it worth it to put down that old gamepad.

I am mainly poisitive. Windows 10 optimization. Ergonimic Rift (BIG plus).
A bit worried about the "wearing glasses" option. Half-moon input (they seem more better suited than Valve's, but I haven't tried any of those, so obviously i can't tell. I get both HMD's anyway). No more pixels. 3D audio (Integrated, which is great because I don;t have to put an extra headphones. If you don't like that, you can take them off).

And the last thing: The Rift is coming at last!

So far they have yet to impress me beyond the Half Moon. That was literally the only thing they had to offer this time around. And now the only first person VR experience they offer is EVE: Valkyrie.

I'm fairly certain the third person games are a result of the supposed discomfort from people trying to focus on objects that are too close to their eyes in VR. I don't think it's worth the trade off, I would much rather have first person VR than this platformer bullcrap.

On the contrary I think the third person games will have scaled down worlds to reduce motion sickness and emphasize the 3d like in Luckies Tale. Reducing the scale of the world reduces the perceived velocities and accelerations. Looks like Lucky's Tale became the model. First peson makes you lack of hands more glaring and usually demands more movement and is much better standing. It was all about sitting down before the Vive was shown.

wow people acting like they pissed in your cornflakes. If it wasn't for them there would BE NO VR. Valve def wouldn't have got the ball rolling..someone had to have the balls to do it and a lot of you are acting like self righteous eggplants. But put your money where your mouth is, I think 95% of you will be on the Rift this time next year..holla.

Actually if it wasn't for US there'd be no VR.

Don't get it twisted: People are pissed because they feel betrayed. If we didn't back the original Oculus Kickstarter so passionately there is a strong argument to be made that VR would not have the attention that it does from these corporations regardless of the fact that the technology would nearly be there. VR had been a dirty buzzword since the 90's. People equated VR with VirtualBoy and the Lawnmower Man. That wouldn't have changed without our help.

We voted with our wallets. We were sold a vision of what PC gaming and new media could be. Oculus has done a 180 on many of the things that they said they would do in that vision. Even accounting for the inevitable changes that would happen as they became a large corporate entity, they outstrip themselves in new ways every day. People are scared that the Rift won't be what it could be because of this.

As a result, it's only natural for people to want to jump ship to Valve; Valve being company that nearly singlehandedly carries the PC games industry today and for years and has a proven track record of putting innovation in PC gaming first.

I still haven't lost total faith in Oculus but I'm pissed too. I understand wanting your product to have mass appeal and be accessible for a large audience but not at the cost of dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator (a policy that's become all to common with AAA games publishers as well). I'm afraid that is exactly what's happening here

Well said.

I can almost see Lucky sat at home stroking his piles of cash going "ahhh, throw them an xbox controller, that'll do, now get my hot naked servant to bring me some more of my cash to count"

I'm not worried at all. In fact i'm super excited! Cannot wait to use the new motion controllers and also really looking forward to streaming my Xbox One games! This was something I had thought about well over a year ago. I hoped somebody would make an easy way to play regular console games on the Rift, now I know i can play at least one of my consoles as well as PC games on it! 😄

I am a little anxious about specific specs for the system. I hope they are good. But otherwise I'm not worried. I will be buying the HTC Vive also btw and probably the morpheus too. (Maybe nintendo will announce VR for the NX at E3)

I hoped they would do the press conference in VR where they would show the Rift capabilities to the audience. I'm a bit surprised there was little attention towards content. On the topic of input, I would (like many others) have preferred that the waited with the commercial launch till they are able to bundle the HMD with the Half Moon input device. I'm used to game with keyboard + mouse and hate the console controllers (cause I suck with those). I also fear that a lot of companies will advertise their games as VR capable, just because they support the xbox controller input scheme, and are able to put the signal to the HMD. I hoped for a "real" VR revolution with the Rift, where you can experience "real" presence. I backed the kickstarter initiative because I liked the idea of a single person's aspiration to tackle a problem that the large companies didn't care about, with the sole intention to come up with the best solution technology could come up with, for a reasonable price. It seems that corporate interests have taken over, and that the main interest is now to sell the VR platform to the largest audience possible, with all the corporate marketing bullshit (a.k.a. first to market, market penetration) instead of the best possible VR solution technology can provide. With other words, only go to market with a decent input device. I hope everything will work out once there is fantastic content for the HMD / Half Moon combo that everyone wants to experience.

NUMBER 7: Partnership with Microsoft so people can use their Xbox controller and streaming and playing games WHILE IN A VIRTUAL WORLD looking at a VIRTUAL TELEVISION SCREEN? LOL. You got to be kidding me right? Why would i want to do that when i have done it many times in the real world? This is like asking people to go back to the dinosaur age for gaming because the real world doesn't exist anymore lol.

I really don't understand the reactions to this. Have people not tried liveviewrift? Even though the low resolution makes oculus DK2 not really feasible for watching movies right now, the huge screen you can create does give you that cinema experience. I've tried watching some 3D stuff on a virtual iMax-like screen and it was exactly the same feeling I get when I watch something in imax (besides the low resolution of course, which ruins the thing, but you do get that huge screen feeling despite that). The screen shown in the presentation was not that huge, but it would still be a pretty expensive screen from the looks of it, not something most of us have at home, so I strongly disagree with you that most of us do this many times in the real world. Most people don't have home cinemas to play in, and even those who do (like me, I have a 3 meters wide screen) don't use it for gaming much due to the fact that replacing a burn out bulb can in some cases buy you an oculus DK2...
So this is definitely exciting, I just wish they had this for Playstation as well, I'd love to play bloodborne on a huge screen instead of my 46 inch HDTV, it's NOT THE SAME experience, not at all! (But they also need to include the possibility to have different screen sizes). This would replace projectors and home cinemas as it's a much cheaper solution with much less space needed. The thing that can break it is the resolution as seeing the pixels ruins it and also lowers the fidelity of the picture on the screen, but once we get to high enough pixel density that it would be like the real world, this would mean huge movie theaters in every home that you could even use for gaming, and that's not a small thing.

I think what worries me most is the fact that all the info we are getting from Oculus now indicate they are catering for the small experiences and not the expansive worlds we all want...

There was no mention of developers like Frontier for example...

Games like Elite Dangerous / Project Cars / Alien Isolation are all far larger games than anything that was shown or given indication for...

I get the impression Oculus are dumbing the Rift down.... We've seen it with Graphics in games... downscale to meet the widest audience.. while those that have the hardware to take true advantage of them are left swinging in the wind...

If this keeps up the hardware manufacturers will have a hard time flogging their latest iteration of hardware because no one will be able to take advantage of it anyway.

If I were to relate what I've seen to the consoles.. I would say the Vive is the PS4 and the Oculus is the Wii.... If you are a serious gamer go with the Vive... if you are a casual non experienced person or someone who just wants to muck about get an Oculus.
