Why can't Oculus get shipping right?

Serious discussion hopefully will follow. I am legitimately curious, why do they keep screwing up something that is relatively a straight forward process, from a business perspective?

new company, with little logistical ties - they were able to handle onshore a little easier, but with freight and foreign warehousing / timing may of been off. which is why international customers have been last to hear anything

throw on top potential production issues (guessing - 0 evidence) this is what may of caused the knock backs we have seen.

total guess work!

Several posters have heard from Oculus that when they opened pre-orders in January they had Zero stock on hand.  So most of us associate the shipping delays to manufacturing delays.

How are they getting shipping wrong, I would guess every one sent has arrived so far.

Oculus probably has little in the form of logistics experience as far as supply chain goes.  That doesn't keep them from finding a couple extra helping hands with that $2 Bil that Facebook invested.  What's probably doing the most damage is the legal team over at Facebook driving what information can be released and what can't to reduce liability as much as possible.

Lol, what exactly have they done wrong? Was it wrong to ship the first units on time 3 days ago? I don´t know what world people live in sometimes.

Technicalities shouldn't be looked at as successful launches. Yes, they shipped out some KS Rifts on the 28th as promised. But aside from that shipping has been typical Oculus speed. I can't recall any other product launch from a tech company that had a rollout as slow as Oculus has. There are even articles written about it.

How could that be possible? Haven't they been producing stock for launch since last fall?

500k-600k units sold just in the first pre-order hour.. with zero in stock. (assuming order numbers mean anything). So yea they should probably tell folks they're not getting theirs this month unless they literally ordered in the first 5 minutes.
BTW.. 3 months is a blink of an eye in terms of manufacturing. So the "surprise" in pre-order numbers is not something they could fix in the 3 months leading up to today.

Nope, Cyber said in a discussion here that they had no stock when pre-orders went live.
