I hope the Meta developers will see this post.
I have been doing a lot of testing Link settings and image quality but what I still can't figure out is that Link is clearly less detailed than VD at the same resolution. (I'm talking about resolution, sense of resolution, pixels, etc. Not compression artifacts)
When I run Link at 5408x2736 and VD at Ultra (5376x2784), VD is clearly sharper and renders more detail. Changing distortion curvature, changing encode resolution to max, can't change the result. Rather, in the first place, Link doesn't seem to be able to maintain detail of original image even at the center of the image at all, as if a blur filter was applied.
These are direct captured images
Of course, I disabled dynamic resolution of HL:Alyx & both are no sharpening for comparison. Anyway, the result is the same in other games.

If you actually use both, you may have noticed that VD clearly has a finer stroke, more detail. If the center of the image of Link is 1:1 (Meta graphics programmer Volga Aksoy said render res 5408x2736 & encode res 3664 will be 1:1), it's as if VD is using DLSS. I have no idea what is bringing about this difference. I don't know why Link is blurry even 1:1.

Hey there, @tanubon! We couldn't help but notice that you are experiencing some PCVR issues. We totally understand how immersion breaking that can be and we'd love to help you get this issue sorted out as quickly as possible! It appears that the game you mentioned (Half-Life: Alyx) isn't available for purchase in our store, it's only available on SteamVR. Are the issues that you are experiencing only occurring with Steam games or are you noticing it with Meta apps as well? Since we currently don't offer support for Steam, if this issue pertains to only Steam games, we'd recommend reaching out to Steam Support for further assistance. Please let us know if there is anything further that we may assist you with as we are always happy to help!

😆
No problem in Link, VD & Steam. This is a technical topic about how Link and Virtual Desktop work, not a general question. But thanks.

Ah, gotcha! Please don't hesitate to let us know if you happen to have any further questions or concerns. Enjoy the rest of your week and happy gaming!

Virtual Desktop gets H264 400Mbps now. Its quality (compression artifact) is almost the same as Air Link H264 400Mbps. Thanks to better foveated encoding & sharpening, the clarity was completely superior to Link... Other than being free, the benefits of using Link for users are almost gone. Very sad. 😫

Meta added Quality mode for sharpening recently. It's using qualcomm super resolution. But it doesn't make better pixel density unlike Virtual Desktop's. And blurry except edges. Very disappointed. The advantage of Link is extremely small now except free. Link uses 4x VRAM!!! But less pixel density, less stability. 😩 Wired Link can use 900Mbps, I can tell the difference, but games with a clear difference are rare, and most people don't care.
