Why is Meta breaking old Quest Rift Link with Updates?

LuciStar_ScS2
Honored Guest

It seems every new update makes the Rift Link Cables less and less effective, why code to inconvenience your users? Wifi connections will never be as powerful/reliable as hardline cable and many of us shelled out the extra funds for an official cable yet it seems Meta is actively advising people to buy 3rd party cords?

If that's the case why not post that advice on the product description pages for the official cable?

2 years ago these link cables worked like clockwork and I never had a connection issue, now in 2023 I have a useless cable? What happened?

Anecdotal, but I'm a Q1 user and I've had the exact same problems as reported in that thread and on Reddit, down to the PTC temporarily fixing it in v56.1 until v57 broke it again.

@LuciStar_ScS2And anyone else having the problem, do give the workaround in that thread a try.

I doubt there's any big conspiracy behind it, just not enough time or resources dedicated to QA.

@LuciStar_ScS2  Sooo nice of you to join this forum 32 minutes ago in order to share all this.  I handed down my old Q1 to a friend 2 years ago with my official link cable and he is still happily using it with a rtx2080s gpu for all his flight and racing sims.

If you are actually having issues you should contact Meta support and start a ticket, including your log files.  Ranting without providing any details isn’t very useful and given this is your 1st post maybe you’re not aware of all this.  Either that, and I could be wrong, you’re just trolling, lol!

They aren't trolling. It's a known issue with the most recent updates. There's a workaround via re-enabling the USB connection dialog in Developer settings though.

@Arthur_Teasdale  I don’t think that affects the Q1 because that stopped getting updates after v50.  Impossible to know if that’s what this one post wonder has because he doesn’t give any details, just that things have progressively gotten worse over the last couple of years.  If you think that this is an honest post then maybe you can help him sort this out.

@Arthur_Teasdale  Like I would believe someone like you that just joined this forum 3hrs ago.  That’s it for me replying to forum guests who only join to troll and rant.  I definitely will stop replying to any of these posters.  If mods want to deal with those people then that’s up to them.  I’ll sign off this thread and unsubscribe.  Bye and good luck.

Thanks @Arthur_Teasdale, that's super helpful and I'll give it a shot.

@TomCgcmfc's friend probably doesn't use his headset for gaming at all if he's never experienced this. It's happened time and time again after major updates.

Just a heads up as some of us old timers already know, but ALL VR cables eventually go bad from all the twisting and stepping on.  The more you use it, the more it gets worn out.  Skimming over your post, you're using a 2 year old cable, so it might be best to try a new cable and see if the issues improve (USB errors, dropped connections, downgraded USB speeds, etc). You don't have to buy the official cable, just get a 3rd party Link compatible cable off Amazon for $20.

As for me, I use AirLink and its been working fine.

Trying a new cable when cable link isn't working is hard thing 😂
