Hey guys, I think it is annoying that CV1 doesn't support games that supported DK2. I wanted to play Half-Life 2, tried to activate the "VR-Option" in the videosettings, but it says there is no VR-hardware present. That's funny, I bought a headset for alotta money that doesn't run games on which the cheaper predecessor and "experimental item" even works on.
So, please, dear developers, improve rift support and make it a real gaming solution, not just an option for few titles. At least, each game that works on DK2 should work on CV1.
Idea: why not add a "DK2 compatibility mode"? So I can run all the games that ran on DK2 until there is native CV1 support? I understand that DK2 worked differently than CV1 (like clone displays or something).
But as I don't just want to complain: the experience IF it works is really great!
Not gonna happen. Oculus started breaking compatibility between versions from 0.6 onwards. They have no intention of supporting older demos/games.... so alien isolation, et al is locked off unless the devs update their version.
Well, not just .6, but .6 and 1.0 will NOT be backwards compatibale. Doesn't mean they can't work, but that the underline code is soo different now that they can't really go back and edit how an API works. Basicly, we are seeing at this stage is code rot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_rot
Yeah this situation is very unfortunate. There are a lot of old DK2 demos and games and stuff that I'd really like to try. It's really not a complicated matter for them to be recompiled with the new SDK and made compatible, but unfortunately lots of them are no longer maintained and have no source code available >_<
