Will Cambria be at CES?

With the reveal of Meta presenting at CES next month, speculation grows towards the dropped announcement of the Hi-End Quest platform making an appearance at the Las Vegas event.

Example of the speculation doing the round in this video:

When is the last time Meta/Facebook/Oculus has ever announced a new headset at CES? Unless I missed something, I am fairly certain that the answer is "never." 🤔

  • Rift CV1 was a commercial announcement (e.g. a Tweet)
  • Oculus GO was announced at Oculus Connect
  • Quest 1 was announced at Oculus Connect
  • Quest 2 was announced at Oculus Connect
  • Rift-S was announced at GDC

I honestly can't see any reasonable consideration towards the idea that Meta would announce their successor to Quest 2 at a 3rd party event. Sure it's possible. Yes it would be fun if they did. But seems unlikely.

Especially since Mark Zuckerberg typically announces new things personally, on his Facebook Feed. We would likely see him announce it first before handing the spotlight over to CES or any other 3rd party.

Meta is certainly listed as a " Featured Exhibitor" at CES 2022 so who knows what they might be exhibiting...

Plus Cambria has really already been announced right - just not much said about it yet. They did say enough to indicate it will be more of a test bed for future devices, not necessarily a Quest 3 type device.

Yes, their taking of such a prominent spot is a new approach, and from the description looks to be showing more than just new software.

Would not be surprised if something is revealed before the event then showcased in more detail on the show floor. Similar to how they did the Rift reveal.

Side topic - is no one going to mention the forum 24-hour outage, or are we going to pretend that did not happen?

Yeah I could not log in to the forums all day yesterday ...

Yeah, seems weird - no one even mentioned what happened?
Boy the forum is quiet if something like that can just rumble by?

Interesting topic derail. Saying that the forum is quiet or has low activity is certainly your latest favorite soundbite 😛

The forum is quite business. Busier than ever before, from what I can tell. I think people just don't default to negativity anymore. And not everyone who comes here is hoping Oculus and this Forum perform poorly. Those days are behind us, despite the efforts of the remaining few 😉

Yes there was an outage. So... people wait until it is over and then go back to business as usual.

Heck, even Amazon had a major outage this past week.

These things eventually resolve, and there's plenty to do in life in the meantime.

May be just an upgrade process? Have you seen new "Ideas" group integration into forum?

Or it may be some other device/feature?

There were rumors on intriguing email....

Agree, this is tantalizing. I am not sold on this being a reveal of the Quest Pro, though expect leaks. If you track previous involvement by Oculus with CES, after the KS and acquisition, the move was to off show gatherings and 'leaked' information to steal the publicity from others.

Seeing them (or their owners) return to the show floor with a presence is interesting. I do expect a reveal of new Meta Quest 2 features, but also from the way embargos are being retained, a possible leak on Quest Pro, towards a bigger announcement at the planned FB press event in February.

This rekindled happy memories on the pre-acquisition booth at CES, with the then Oculus team - with a leaked version of DCS on a DK2. Fun days.
