Obviously we need to hear confirmation that it's coming this year but I saw something that Palmer Luckey posted in the past 48 hours:
"The Apple Headset is so good" https://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-palmer-luckey-apple-reality-headset-impression/
So, the Apple market is so far untapped when it comes to headsets and I really do think a lot of heavy Apple users won't have touched VR when it needed a PC. I'm not sure if this will just be for enthusiasts, or enterprise "industry" users.
Personally I have no doubt it will give a boost, just how much?

I'm hoping it will just add a lot more developers (iOS devs) into the XR field. And yes, a few of the big spending consumers over too.
As for price, that's a great point - Quest 2 went up, Quest 3 we're expecting to be a little more, I think the media will forget about everything else also increasing and hammer the increased prices of VR headsets. I wonder if Quest 2 will remain and they'll drop the price to the original £299?

Not quite the pair of Wayfarers I was hoping they would be lol
Love the amount of voice control that they appear to be utilising - please please Meta, let the rest of the world use voice control.
Love the way you can dial-in the amount of immersion/close off the real world.
Not liking the 2 hour battery life.
Eyesight looks really creepy.
EDIT: Was thinking about Eyesight and was about to post that I understand the idea behind it - it lets others know where you're looking, but I doubt with that headset and the distorted image of the eyes that outsiders will truly be able to see where you are looking. I suppose we'll know for sure when it hits the real world.

Yeah I just saw them.. I mean the structure of the device smooth and nice but the eyesight is umm not something I like.

12 cameras, 6 microphones, no controllers, $3500.
Micro oled screens at 3400x3400 each, around 83Hz.
The price matches the Hololens 2, but that just means both devices are overpriced.

mmm it looks like a glimpse into the near future but in a physical package and form factor that's very much today's technology albeit with comfort likely to be excellent from the look of it.... but yeah, that price.
There are some really interesting features though, 3D cameras, if they're photographic quality, work well and let you record moments that you can then simply see as if it's part of your space, that's pretty sweet.
Bringing your laptop screen into AR just by looking at its screen is also very clever and something that's easier for Apple to do across its platforms than for others who would need more cross platform cooperative development.
The rest could be done with Quest 3 comparatively well I think, provided devs move forwards with AR software and make it as user friendly and seamless as Apple seem to be able to do.
The big stumbling block for Apple is likely to be no PCVR and from the looks of it, stand-alone VR gaming isn't really a thing with this device, just AR, at least initially. The price isn't surprising for Apple but it'll become cheaper, I suspect similar pricing to their phones. The likes of Meta shouldn't drop the ball with AR feature development, I'm convinced AR will become bigger than VR... gamers will always want VR... everyone will eventually want, even need AR.

I think it's a jack of all trades and VR headset makers should be ashamed as it out specs them in every category.
It uses an m2 chip so it's powerful. I am betting not only will it play unity games but you may be able to make unity games on it and use Blender? But yeah I think if you use a laptop this can replace it.
Has photo quality cameras and takes 3d pictures, not sure if it does movies too but I don't see why not. Again powerful enough to edit them with a M2,
Very nice oled display. Really this burns me up that Oculus does not offer an oled display unless you want to go back to 2016 for the Rift.
Keep in mind that if Apple allows emulation software this could mean that we could load Oculus PC apps onto it potentially.
The weight of it is unknown, but if it's lighter than the Quest 3 you really got to ask why something that can do so much more than games with better displays and more power, how did Apple have the opportunity to leap frog them? Yeah it's $3500. But still what's so hard at building a light high quality set just for gaming? Tell you the truth, I am leaning going to Bigscreen Beyond for my next upgrade because I am not waiting another 3 years for the Quest 4 to come out.
Also consider content creators are using Apple products already. Iphones with lidar has the best apps to create 3d objects for vr. 100s of games will be available at launch too.

The 2019 Quest 1 was OLED too.

Marques Brownlee got to try it. In the video below (at 15:50) he says its a pretty heavy headset, it's made of glass and metal rather than plastic, and he wasn't sure how fatiguing it will be beyond the 30min he used it for.
Also from the RoadToVR hands on article:
I found the headset fairly front-heavy, even with an optional top strap. I’m glad they have the top strap though, because AVP (like most headsets) definitely benefits from it. However, the choice to have the strap go from ear-to-ear (rather than forehead to back-of-head) seems like a mistake because it doesn’t let you lift the headset’s front-heavy weight up quite as well.
It’s difficult to judge headset ergonomics without real long-term usage, but my gut was that Quest Pro is more comfortable thanks to its more balanced design and rigid headstrap.

Agree with you @Hiro_Protag0nist! Had the chance to check out an hour of anything Youtube had to offer in terms of info on this thing. Maybe it's the Meta fangirl in me (or the late adopter), but I'm a tad bit skeptical of how awesome this headset is going to be in real life. Granted the concepts of it is amazing in the product video, but is it really that wow in person?
Also, it's mentioned a lot...but ouch that price point though. The one great feature in my eyes is the seamless flow of Apple products working together. The headset seems marketed as more of an entertainment/app system than a gaming headset, which I still believe Meta can do. Once the price point starts coming down then it may be a different story, but for now I think Apple is hitting a different market of folks that only some of which will start delving into VR in my humble opinion.

It’s a really nice looking headset, and has some great features, but that price is pretty extreme, and it’s not really targeted at the same demographic as Quest (i.e. not a VR gaming headset). Still, they’ve done a good job of the stuff that Apple always does well—the user experience looks polished, and it’s well integrated with the rest of the Apple ecosystem. Meta could take a lesson there—as much as I like the Quest, there are still too many points of friction in day-to-day use; issues with account management, Link, library sorting, phone app, etc. Nothing seems to “just work” quite as well as Apple stuff generally does.
By the way, I’m in a Discord server with Shadowmask72, and here’s his comment, since some were wondering:
“NGL, would really like one but the cost is more than my RTX 4090.”
I don’t think we’re going to get an early-adopter review from him on this one.
