Will VR be the Death of The TV Screen?

In a few of the demos of various products i.e. Hololens, GearVR I have seen representations of large screen displays within the "experience".

Oculus have "Oculus Cinema" which simulates the movie theater experience, and Microsoft can augment a flat screen display onto any wall of home.

Recently Sony spun off its TV division into a separate entity to control costs.

In the longer term I think VR will change the way in which we experience movies, games, and TV but in the medium term it may spell the death for the large TV in the home.

If this is the scenario then I would imagine more of the manufacturers like Panasonic,LG,Philips etc will need to seriously start looking into HMD of their own. >;{}

watching a romantic movie in rift with your wife/gf/family sounds like a bad idea. So the answer is NO

I look at this way while your wife/family etc are watching a romantic movie, you could be watching the ball game in the same room at the same time. .;{}

AR becomes VR the second you blot out the entire "reality".
Which is exactly my point. >;{}

First HMDs would have to get very very high res like 8k per eye. Then they might stop people from investing too much in big home theater systems or cinema tickets (cinemas could also die from home theaters getting too good). But people will still likely want some screens around for looking at stuff while they are eating socializing etc. Also if home theater equipment continues to improve and get cheaper than why not buy an 8k screen that rolls down from your ceiling to your floor if it only costs a few hundred?

If AR glasses become a thing everyone puts on in the morning, wear all day and are super high definition then I could easily see them completely replacing all other screens if the share and linking functions are easy and intuitive enough.
