I heard that Oculus was working on a wireless version of the Rift? That would be a huge improvement as most of us do get tangled up in the cables. Some way off, but an improvement in the FOV (Field of View) would be the next step. But then maybe there would have to be a totally new type of display than the present OLED? Maybe the field of view can improved with OLED's? But I think some new display would have to be used like 'Graphene' to get the full curvature round the eyes (about H180xV90 degrees). That will happen, but not for some years ahead. Maybe I watch too many Sci-Fi films!
if you really want wireless asap the vive is your best bet... i am sure oculus are working on something too but i doubt they will release this generation.
the vive however is getting a lot more "bolt on" bits to improve / expand on the existing tech.
personally i honestly do not have much of a problem with the wires.... if inside out tracking ever works fully, that interests me far more.
