Worried that the VR experience will be ruined because of delays

My worry is that by the time 4 to 6 months have passed when the majority of us finally get the Rift that the games and experience will be dulled and in some cases ruined.

Somehow all the major you tubers had no problem getting the CV1 and all I am seeing out there is lets plays with the Oculus and the Vive.

Then there is the whole summer game sale thing from Steam, GOG, and Origins that will be taking place. I cant partake in getting discounts on those titles because I dont know when I will ever get my Rift. Sure I could buy it now and sit on the game but that just makes me poorer without actually having a usable product. Its similar to buying chocolate muffin and setting it on the counter. Sure the concept of the muffin sounds great but you cant eat it for 4 months or more. By the time you are allowed to eat it 4 months later the muffin has been has been ruined by time.

I have been looking forward to this launch from the day I heard about it 3 years ago. I have wanted VR since I was a kid in late 80s and early 90s when I got a hold of some of the great titles by Gibson and P.K.D.  I have been desperate for VR for the last 11 years as it is my only hope of experiencing the things I used to do before I was disabled.

I just cant put my head under a rock for the next 6 months and hope for the best.

Does anyone else share in this fear?

Well I ordered day 1 at about lunchtime when the plane I was on landed originally april delivery.
I am now told middle of June.  I see that all the Oculus cv1 computer bundles that I could order today from best buy will get delivered on May 3rd. 1 1/2 months ahead of when I will get mine.

Yes it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Don't worry guys. The future has NOT been cancelled. Thanks.

If we go by both you and the op being correct then it looks to me like...*puts on sunglasses*...the timeline may have a rift.

I am talking about all the games and game sales that are and will be happening over the next 4 month wait.

Those things have a very high chance of being ruined by lack of the device. They have a high chance of being ruined because all the game publications and everyone that magically got their rifts in the media will spoil everything about the game.

So even if I buy one of those Oculus games now at a sale price I will have no way to confirm if its good or not and when 4  months have passed I will have no recourse.

The post is about Device content. Not the device itself.

I just don't see what you are worried about. A game(s) that doesn't stand up to the test of time in six months? Wouldn't that make it not worth it today? Most of the smaller ones are under ten dollars that I see now. Are you worried that new content won't come out? Sales will happen after you have your device, but if you can't wait for a sale after you have your device then that means you are excited for it anyway.

I'm not trying to be crass or anything I just really don't see what you are worried about. If you are worried about spoilers then what do you do now to keep away from them now about other things?

Why is the future not here yet?  EVERY DAY IT GETS DELAYED!  That's it!  I'm cancelling my future order!  If you need me I'll be over in the corner drinking my special koolaid.

I'm told early August for me, yeah it sucks.

It's worth waiting for guys.

As long as you get it before the Oculus Rift 2...  😐
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

I think my Rift is in a state of Quantum Superposition ... it exists in all possible states all at once at the moment, I am both wearing it and it is still being manufactured somewhere as well as in a box in some room with a guy called Schrodinger

DAMN YOU PHYSICS!!!
Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black

The absolute only reason for you fear is your own focus on waiting. Focus on something else. Problem solved. There will be more sales, in the future. And the funny thing is that no matter how hard you focus on the delivery, the only thing you ruin is your own feeling about it. There is 0 impact on the delivery, whether you focus on it or not. As Cyber said: the future is not cancelled. The only thing you are cancelling yourself is your own happyness about VR being just around the corner. Have you seen the weather lately? It's gorgeous, much better than angrily ramming F5 on your mailbox every 4 seconds. Everyone would bum out doing that.

As a fresh Vive owner (Yes i know - no Rift but they are pretty similar) I can tell you: It is worth the wait. Nothing can ruin the experience for you. On the upside you'll have more content to choose from.

Hang in there - it will be great!

Delayed people have the advantage of a larger library when they first experience the Rift.  Yeah, it sucks to wait, but there are some great games you'll be able to play day one.
