Yes. Extension Cables DO work w/ CV1

Just because I was curious myself, I got some USB 3.0 and HDMI extension cables. I used them with both the sensor and the consumer headset. They're standard 10 foot passive cables. They seem to work with no problem. Cheers.

So If I use the RadioShack repeater, could I get this 15ft HDMI cable?
Amazon Basics  15" HDMI

Would this 15 feet active USB 3.0 cable work?
Cable Matters 5m USB 3.0 cable

My intention is to try MaxxGold's advice and connect both 15" extenders to the PC, run them together with a 15" long power cable for the active USB extender and then connect the Rift.

I'm not sure if the 15 foot cable would work. I couldn't get 2 10 foot normal USB 3.0 cables to work. As stated above I got the 10 foot and 6 foot cables to work with a repeater at the end of the 10 and 6 foot section. All together I have close to 30 feet with the Rift cables in the loop. I have plenty of cable now for room scale. Now we just need to see if we can set the cameras up for good coverage. If you get that cable and it works come back in here and let us know. I haven't tried active cables.

So you have a 16ft HDMI and 10ft USB 3.0 extension + the Rift cables, right?

I was looking to achieve, 15ft HDMI(with a 15ft cable and the Radioshack repeater) and 16.4ft  USB 3.0(using the active extender connected with a long-cabled power supply).

The reason I wanted that much length(about 28ft), was in case I had to route the cabling to the ceiling for the Omni, or in case there was a way to to have room-scale having the cable hanging from the ceiling. But who knows, maybe 10ft ought to work. I will take some measurements tonight.

  • Will the repeater use the HDMI's own current to power itself, or do I need to connect another power source?
  • What about the comments on people getting the black screen with the 10ft HDMI cable? It seems that the repeater is a safe way to go.

I have 16 feet of USB 3.0 and HDMI, and then my Rift cables. I misspoke above. I had no problem with any length of USB 3.0 that I tried. It was the HDMI that was the problem.

The repeater has it's own power source, so you need to factor that into your setup. I have  think power cord wrapped up in my setup.

Yeah, there are some conflicting reports. I couldn't get the 10 foot HDMI to work until I added the repeater in at the end. Also make sure your 6 foot extender is a male to male if you get a repeater.

It's strange that there are some Amazon reviews that state that the repeater could potentially use the HDMI current. Did you try the repeater without connecting the power source?

How did you achieve the 16 feet of USB 3.0? Is it an active setup? Could you point me to the product page in amazon? Because Cyber recommended a 10 feet cable.

The repeater would not work without the power source. There are two lights on the repeater that let you know when you have a solid link.

I just used a 6ft USB 3.0 extender with the 10 foot section from above. I already had the 6 foot sections laying around the house. My goal was just a ten foot extender but 10 foot extender would not work without the repeater, and the end of the 10 foot cable was a female so I had to plug in the 6 foot male to male extender to work with the repeater. You may try getting a male to male 10 foot extender with the repeater.

I bought 2 of these and neither worked:

So beware not all extension cables work.

If you are having issues with the cables, can you also list your graphics card? I'm wondering if maybe different video cards have different levels of success. My home and work machines both have EVGA GTX 980 cards and I've had no problems.

I have an EVGA 980ti classified. Bought this 2m HDMI extension cable:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A30FLE2

which didn't work. Amber light on the Rift remained amber, proximity sensor did not activate screens.
Tried with and without the USB extension connected, same result.

The repeater comes with a power brick you plug into the wall.

No luck here.  I haven't found any solution that works for me, including the ones that work for others.  If I extend the HDMI I get either a black screen or an intermittent black screen.

Not even with the RadioShack repeater in between the extender and the Rift? GPU->Extender->Repeater->Rift

I bought the 3 foot version of each cable Cyber posted here and they both work flawlessly, plug in and go.  I just wanted to get my connections out to just under the front of my desk. Since it seems to matter what gpu everyone is using I am on a gtx 970.
