Yes. Extension Cables DO work w/ CV1

Just because I was curious myself, I got some USB 3.0 and HDMI extension cables. I used them with both the sensor and the consumer headset. They're standard 10 foot passive cables. They seem to work with no problem. Cheers.

I did try 6 different HDMI cables and NOTHING worked...
Black screen and only sound in the headset...
...untill...
I borrowed my friends HTC vive, and by connecting Oculus Rift to VIVE link box everythig worked fine!
So i will be ordering Link Box for HTC VIVE and i can extend it as long as i want 😄

It goes to show, it's all about the power consumption.

I was concerned when they dropped the power connector for CV1 (it was always required for DK2) and it looks like it was for good reason. I also recall reading somewhere that the real need for USB3.0 was more to do with power consumption than data transfer (kinda makes sense seeing as they do work in USB2.0).

It also wouldn't surprise me if the lack of power is leading to the tracking issues!

I think just to be sure, oculus should issue us all a free break out box 😉 and a 10 meter extension 😛

Tried these too, still the same issue, black screen on rift and sound crackles just using the USB extension alone, back to amazon they go then, it definately must be about power consumption, think I'll have to make do with the rift cables for now 😞

I just picked up the 9' Insignia Extension cables from Best Buy.  They didn't work for me.  At first it seemed fine, but 10 mins in and the screen would start cutting in and out constantly.  It just kept progressing.  Flashing off / on every 5-10 seconds.  Even got broadcast like "snow" here and there.   Restarting everything didn't work.  Unplugging/replugging didn't work.  Trying new ports didn't work.   Might have to try a repeater.

Monoprice 6 foot HDMI  and cablematters 6 foot USB didn't work with my 1080. I said screw it and bought a Vive Link Box, USB+ HDMI male to male cables and a dc adapter. At least aht ( should) work but I'm not wasting time and money on trying to extend with female cables.

I have these, too. They work great for about an hour then started cutting out.  I finally figured out that they were overheating.  The way I have the cables hanging from the ceiling the hdmi repeater was directly in front of an AC vent (blowing heated air this time of year).  I now turn off the AC in the room before playing (helps keep the HMD from fogging up when *I* get overheated, too  ) and have not had it cut out since then (over a week now).
