ZeniMax claiming Palmer is not even capable of creating the DK1 and stole the tec?

They also mentioned no one knows what Palmer's Job title is at Oculus, which is something I was wondering.

Even if it was within their work hours and on their equipment, that doesn't mean they have any rights to it unless his contract says they do. So far I haven't seen anyone post a single actual quote from Carmack's contract.

If it's really as extreme as everybody is guessing, why was Carmack still allowed to do things like open source Doom 3 (basically giving away a Zenimax owned engine).

Carmack, at the time still working at Doom developer id, showed off an early prototype of what would become the Rift at E3 in 2012. The rough prototype was showing id’s Doom 3: BFG Edition running in VR. Luckey noted that he wasn’t at the event himself, but said a demo would not have been possible without Carmack’s software. Asked if this was a breakthrough moment for the company, he replied: “I guess you could call it a breakthrough moment in awareness.”
It’s worth noting that ZeniMax’s complaint filed against Oculus last year questions Luckey’s claims. The document alleges that, at CES 2013, Oculus “disseminated to the press the false and fanciful story that Luckey was the brilliant inventor of VR technology who had developed that technology in his parents’ garage.” ZeniMax alleges this story is “utterly and completely false”, and that Luckey lacked “training, expertise, resources, or know-how to create commercially viable VR technology.” Later, it states that Luckey made “no substantial contribution” to the creation of the Rift.”

I guess they are refereeing to this video. I am confused are they saying Carmack stole something that made the rift work or are they saying Palmer stole something? Are they mad that Carmack is the one who made the rift work but than gave all credit to Palmer taking it off himself?

I don't know why anyone is even giving Zenimax the time of day. Somehow buying up respected companies like iD and Bethesda makes them respectable? .. give me a break.

They are in it for money, only the money, always have been and always will be. This is a possible paycheck of $2billion to Zenimax that even they know is a long shot but worth the risk considering the reward if they are successful. It's pure corporate scum at work. Not saying that Zuckerberg is any better .. but at least he has the future of technology aligned with his profiteering. Zenimax only seeks to benefit themselves.

In the heated discussion between the Zenimax legal team and OVR executives, I heard for the first time mention of the NDA signed, and how discussing DK2/CV1 with FB infringed this.

Was this raised to also point to the pending Total Recall legal action? Or just to the way OVR team miss handled business dealings, including to fail to reveal the action during the due diligence period of the FB acquisition?

but Palmer rarely wears shoes... thus lowering his overall height making him a smaller target?

Yes also he wears Hawaain shirts and Zuckerberg just sued to gain custody of a bunch of Hawaain land so that Luckey can hide with extra camouflage.

Basic educated "elite" snobbery that anyone who hasn't had formal schooling is incapable of doing something. This ignores the history of young kids who self-taught and built electronics over the past 100+ years... A 100 years ago, young kids built crystal radios (Radio Shack, and others, for example even sold prepackaged kits to cater to that market). 50 years ago, young kids built RC machines and "robots". These days, young kids are more likely to build all of the above, but perhaps relying more heavily on Arduino, Raspberry pi, and other boards along with other parts. There is also the current Maker culture (there were versions of it in the past as well... Hombrew clubs, radio clubs, etc) which support these young kids in their endeavors. Except, often the people who become business executives and lawyers are pretty much oblivious to this world and even mocked these kids as "nerds" when they were younger. To these people, young electronic enthusiasts and programming enthusiasts don't really exist since, to them, the only way to be able to do anything like that is to attend an elite University for 4 to 12 years. It's just the ignorant educated "elite" doing their snobbery as they have always done.

This is obviously quite a big story - but for some reason I lack the enthusiasm to read lots about it.

Im probably missing loads of key-facts... so is this basically whats going on here or not ?:

is it  Zenimax's position ? - that it was a lie that Palmer invented the Oculus Rift... (building it all by himself in his shed like we were all told)... and instead... they say that billionare Palmer wasn't really very clever ) and instead one of their own very clever employees John Carmack who did all the hard work.
That one day Palmer came in with his idea looking to sell it for $500, and given they were not interested.
Their Clever employeer (John) thought the company he worked for was nuts... that this was a great idea and could be worth a fortune... so he stole some of the research he did while working at Zenimax, buggered off to work with Palmer... and made a goddam fortune.
This made Zenimax sad, as they could have bought that damn thing for $500, and now they see someone having so much money he can basically financially support Trump. This money could have been theirs! and goddamit they are going to try to see if they are owed something as the whole thing wouldn't have been possible had it not been for their employee, and the stuff they owned which they say he stole ?
