automatic sound change?

When I switch between HMD and using monitors, I always have to go to control panel and change default device  from rift headphones to my regular headset, and vice versa. Is there anyway to make windows do this by it self?

You shouldn't have to touch the Windows default playback device for games/apps launched through Oculus Home. The audio from those apps should automatically go through the Rift headset while the Windows default playback device remains unchanged. For third-party VR apps (games from Steam, for instance) the audio may not switch automatically if the game does not have native Oculus support.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

it doesn't do it if you play games on Steam VR that don't have native Oculus SDK support. But in the options of Steam VR you can also switch audio device when Steam VR starts and back to your default device when it closes

I solve the problem by outputing all sounds via both the Rift headphones and my speakers.  As my speakers have a switch to turn them on and off, i just switch them on, whenever i take my headset off.  You could output to your headset instead of speakers or, if like me, your speaker control box has a place to plug in headphones, you could kill two birds with one stone.

To mirror the sounds to two sources, i use a piece of software called Voicemeeter (yes, that is two "e"s).

Give it a try and if you search for "Voicemeeter" on this forum, you should find some hints on how to set it up, if you need them.

Edit: for the solution i use, you set the OH audio up to use the default windows device, so you should never have to change it again.

That's strange. It should be automatic and I've never had a problem with it.

You would think that setting OH to point at the Rift headphones and setting the windows default to speakers/normal headphones would be the solution, but something gets in the way of me doing it that way.

Maybe it is SteamVR, which i do still use for some of my older VR games.

Either way, it does what i want it to now.

Sorry if I'm late, but I made a program to do this for you. All you have to do is set it up. Check the latest release at https://github.com/mbilenko03/VRAudioManager.
