damn platform exclusives :(

I  posted this 20 mins ago and it has not shown up... I do not think i have broken any rules but if it shows up twice i appologise.

ok I can just about handle exclusives which are 1st party... I hate them
but i get it, (I still hope the oculus stuff makes it to vive and vice
versa once touch is out mind you)
And if Sony studious want to make
their own VR game for SonyVR again, i am used to it.... but FFS do sony
really have to licence up all format devs to bring out locked VR content
just for their platform?

Batman, Starwars battlefront, resident evil and probably a bunch of other stuff.,...... grrrrr!

its not even like i can buy the console and play them, i would need to buy the console AND the HMD.

Apparently
Facebook/Oculus are properly trying to tap up loads of smaller devs to
lock down to the rift. its a  crap trick and goes against everything
Oculus stood for when being KSed.  I must admit I am starting to wish I
had given my money to the VIVE.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

The only argument against this is if Oculus is using platform exclusives to generate sales of the hardware, which they claim they don't make money on...

Exact my thoughts. When someone says "platform" on PC I think about store, not peripherals. I don't mind some games to be exclusive for the store. If they are not profiting on selling the rift why don't want money from vive users?

Decagon, this is why many of us suspect that this has more to do with HTC and Vive blocking full Oculus SDK support on the Vive.  Oculus stands to make money by supporting Vive on their sales platform.

How HTC is blocking full Oculus SDK on the vive? I wasn't aware of that  😮

Those "hacks" are still requiring user to buy software on OH and if Oculus would run its business the way they promised while asking for backing on KS then those "hacks" wouldn't be necessary. Steam shows that is doable, reasonable and profitable as they are selling software both for Rift and Vive users. You can argue that Oculus can do its business as they like and they have right to block outside devices (does not make them right), but as customers we have right to comment on that, compare (to steam) and express our expectations.

Oculus answers to a different backer now, Facebook. Besides, the only downside to any business not doing what it promises is having people on a forum chastise them for not doing what they promise. Business success rarely reflects those chastisements.

Customers definitely have the right to comment on that; and other customers have the right to comment on those comments. Such is the nature of e-Life B)

Im just glad it looks like I bought the right HMD.  🙂  I made a choice based on the amount of content available to me.  That's all I really care about, and that's what the average Joe will care about.  All this faux moral grandstanding to justify this silly "outrage" just makes me hope Oculus keeps swinging.  Valve is not some poor Orphan that needs coddling.

I don't give a rats behind about exclusives or what Steam is doing.  There is no standard, and I don't see why SteamVR is supposed to be the chosen standard.  Oculus has their own offering, and that is where the competition lies.  Oculus should not be forced to use a wrapper that doesn't even offer ATW to make sure there's a smooth experience.  Just look at the problems Frontier has had using Steam VR for Elite Dangerous.

So for me, I'm happy I bought a Rift and I'll have a PSVR come October 13th.  Thats a lot of VR games to play.  Maybe this will prompt Valve to go, "Hmm, maybe we really need to pour more money and guidance into the development of VR games to ensure our Vive customers have the best experience possible..."

Well said @Hanover. If I ever bought another VR Device it would likely be the PlayStation VR, due to the idea of playing Final Fantasy with full immersion. The very first Final Fantasy game for the original Nintendo was the first RPG I had ever played. So these titles hold a special place in my heart. Granted, they got a bit too crazy for my tastes after FF3 - but I did play the Final Fantasy MMORP for nearly 1 full year.

I think Final Fantasy in VR would finally bring me back to the series. Although, I also plan to invest in the new Xbox VR platform; cause the thought of Halo in VR rocks my socks.

Point being: there's no reason to complain as though we consumers don't have the option to enjoy multiple Platforms. The Rift works great in its Oculus universe, and I plan to be a part of it for as long as the VR gods allow

The last time I brought up Apple as a valid comparison on this forum... I was called a White Knighting fanboi that is too dumb to realize how terrible the iPhone is. You're right though, Apple proved that exclusivity is the smart way to go; but acknowledging that doesn't make for good forum fights :#

@Zenbane, I like Apple and iPhones

my overall experience has been a LOT better in Home than in SteamVR. I didn't like the release issues (and am still not happy about them but that's a topic for another thread if I'm drunk and not playing my rift one night), but the unit, the experience and the quality is awesome, and just plain better with the titles I have on both Steam and Home. I would love to have the experience in Steam be better given that's how I've been buying my games for the past 10 years, but if it's wrapped in SteamVR it just seems to make it worse.
Though you are more than slightly incoherent, I agree with you Madam,
